PURPOSE OF THE PRODUCT:
• The purpose of my application is to give my users a platforms a place to talk to their friends and share what
they do from day-to-day. Further to this, I will be looking into the faults of the current most popular social
media platforms such as Instagram. Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter. Going through the reviews for these
applications and picking out what they dislike and I will use this to my advantage in making my creation a lot
better and more of a competition for the more popular platforms.
• I am looking into making my own social media platform where everyone who uses it will be able
to share their day-to-day experiences with everyone. The most popular app that is more similar to
my idea than any other is Snapchat, this means that I will have to make sure that my design is
unique in comparison to Snapchat because this will mean that I will be able to draw more people
in because of this, also in order to make sure that my app was to win over the more loyal users I
will have to have something big in difference with Snapchat.
Content:
• Looking over the whole app, I will be looking to create an app in which the people using this will
be able to talk and share with their friends. Further to this, the app will be similar to other big
social media platforms such as Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram. This will allow them to
connect with a lot of people in similarities and hobbies etc.
TARGET USER
Hartley’s 7 subjectivities
Age: My application will be more appealing to those who are over 13 years old but no older that
25 due to the content, layout and purpose of this app.
Gender: this application will have no targeted gender as it can be used by everyone due to it
being mainly used for interaction with your friends.
Class: this will mostly be used by people within the social classes of C1, C2, D and E as it would
be targeted towards people in the lower-middle class.
Ethnicity: being based in the UK, the vast majority of my users will be based in the UK.
Katz’ Uses and Gratifications theory
Personal identification: Looking at what content my app will include, it will be relatable to some
people that view it. They will be able to relate to it as they will be used to the functions already
on other social media apps that they use.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Social climbers: knowing that the majority of my users and target audience are going to be
around 13-20 years old they will be intrigued with the celebrity section to my app where they will
be able to see new updates to do with some of their favorite celebrities.

PRODUCTION PLAN
Week beginning
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
All of the different teams
that have been assigned
to creating this app will be
given a deadline in which
they will have a given time
to finish their given task.
Further to this, the app
construction and design
and also final
development are all part
of the process to make
sure it is a success when
released
The team given the task of
editing will start creating
and constructing all of the
different graphics that are
required.
At this stage in the
production plan all of the
information that is needed
in order to make the app
a success. Everything has
to be working correctly
such as the stories, friends
and others as these are
the main parts to the
application so if they don’t
work then it will impact
the take off with the app
and the customers.
This is the stage where the
teams come together,
decide what fonts will be
used, what
animations/movements
will exist where and how
they will work, and further
test secondary functions
for the app.
On this day, we will have
an outsider come and test
the app so that they will
be able to give us an
honest opinion on the app
telling us what is in need
of improvement and what
is working perfectly. This is
necessary process at this
stage as this will mean
that we will have a rough
idea on how successful
the app will be once it is
released to the public.

PRODUCTION PLAN
Week beginning
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
On this date, the
developers of the app
will go over it and
improve the UI and
include all of the
features which it
should include. The
Connection system for
‘Stream Together’ will
be added on and
tested. This will be
done by downloading
the app or using the
online UI to log in and
test it using Test
accounts.
This is where the
engineers will be given
the job of looking
through the results on
testing of the app and
mainly on the
functionality of this.
After this, there will be
a beta version released
to the public where
they will be able to use
the app for themselves
and then after the
slotted time of which
the app has been
released then this will
mean that they will
given a link where they
will have to fill out a
survey answering the
questions that are
most commonly asked.
On this day, the
designers of the app
will receiving the
feedback received
from the users of the
beta application and
they will work on the
final version where
they will make sure
there is no issues
where people will have
a reason to give it a
bad review.
If there are to be
changes in place then
this will mean that they
will be made and
confirmed by the next
day.

LAUNCH DATE AND WHY
The launch date is going to be the 5th of February 2019. From my researching I believe
there are no other big events happening on this date. This will mean that my launch
of my App/Website will not having any inferences from other big events so people
will hopefully be focused on the opening of my creation.

As I predicted in the production plans, I will be
needing to hire staff in order to keep my
website/App in order and making sure
everything is up to standards that I had set for
it. Th table on the right is the breakdown
explaining the costs of some of the important
steps to create the website.
EXPECTED REVENUE AND HOW IT WILL BE MADE
Advertisements will be the main source of revenue within the
app, if the users choose to follow the adverts this will be
recorded allowing us to see if the adverts are working and then
this will allow us to make profits from the adverts. Further to
this, there will be in-app purchases that will be available where
they will be able to pay for filter so that they will be able to
keep it forever, and also there will be a feature where they will
be given the chance to pay to make a filter of their own costing
around £3-5 depending on the amount of layers on the filter.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES
• Open Meetings Act: The open meetings act ensures that government decision making and legislation should be made publically. The
communications which take place on social media platforms have now gotten to a stage where they pose a threat or can introduce conflict
within Open Meetings because it is such a new form of communication and the court cannot provide the guidance for the use of social
media, by these people. Any form of communication or contact on social media could impose these people to have action taken against
them due to their actions online and on social media platforms, therefore leaving them vulnerable to their own actions.
• Freedom of Information Act: Any information that goes onto or is used in social media and posted online or publicized in general, can be
used and seen by the Government, they can see and state/control what each and every single user posts online. Discrimination: Many
people across the world do not have access to the internet, and so do not have access to social media. People using social media sites or
apps(on mobile devices)m should try and communicate with the whole world, and do this using more than one media platform to do so.
They shouldn’t just be using social media to report things in the world, they should be using the more traditional methods as well, as this
allows for variety and inclusion by them, inclusion for the rest of the world, who aren’t as evolved in technology as the majority of the
Western world. This would ensure that everyone can get access to this news and these reports, regardless of where they are.
• Copyright Issues: Social media users need to be more aware, regardless of who they are, of what they post online on any social media
website. They should be more aware of what they post, just in case they end up infringing Copyright on some content, and then facing legal
action against themselves. For example, on YouTube, a user cannot use a song within their own video for more than 30 seconds, therefore
placing themselves in a potential risk. There is however a way of overcoming this and making sure that as a user of YouTube, they are
protected, and quite simply this is by gaining the permission of the owner of the song, to use it in their video.
• Privacy: Many social media platforms, now allow their users to set their own Privacy settings, which allows them to control a number of
things, for example, who views their profile, who can post comments and other content on the profile, and who can search for their social
media page or channel. This is the one main way in which users can protect their privacy on social media sites, and control who does what
on their user profile, as these settings are created and personalized for each individual user of the social media, therefore remaining
personal to them and able to be more ‘Private’ than other people on these sites. For example, we would see on social media platforms such
as Instagram, you can set your Profile to be Private, therefore people have to ask permission to follow you, and you choose whether or not
to let them follow your Bio.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES
Copyright is the legal right that has the ability to protect the use of your
work once it has been put out there for everyone to see. The UK
legislation for the use of copyright is that if anyone wants to use your
work then they have to make sure that they are authorized to use it by
the creator or people who may be in the position to grant access to it.
Most of the time the indication that tells you whether something is
copyrighted then there will be the common sign (©).
IP (intellectual property) Is something which has a unique aspect to it
that no one has come up with or has created before yourself. An
example of this would be my very own website Jinx because it is unique
which makes it my intellectual property.
Royalties will be given to those who own any of the content, such as the
artists owning the songs that the users are playing. This means each
time a user plays a song, a small fee is paid to the artist who wrote that
song.
For my website to be safe for my users I will have something put in
place for all ages where I will prevent them from using any kind of
blasphemy. The reason for this is because I want to be the first social
media platform that steps in to make sure I can reduce the amount of
bullying that occurs on my platfrom.
GUIDELINES AND CONDITIONS
• The web standards project:
• In terms of guidelines and conditions, I would look at using WaSP, as they fight for Standards that help to reduce the
complexity of development and increasing the accessibility of any site published on the web. They work with other browser
companies, authoring tool makers, and peers, in order to deliver the correct standards, and the right standards that people
would and should expect. https://www.webstandards.org/about/index.html
• The world wide web consortium:
• I would then use the W3C as they work together (Full-Time staff and Public), in order to develop web standards for
websites and such relevant things. Their mission is to “Lead the Web to its full potential”. I would use them as they look at
developing and continuously looking into the web, and its standards, and trying to find any possible way to improve it and
make the standards more relevant, and more accurate for every publisher of a website, and all of the users of the Web, that
would be using these websites.
• Terms and Conditions:
• For the terms and conditions of the Website/ App, I would go through the standard, necessary ones, and also look at the
secondary feature, therefore have to imply more conditions of use and so on, because of this feature. When we look at
terms and conditions of already existing Applications and Social Media Websites, we would see that they go through the
standard rules of the app/social media, and also the rules that users have to follow if they do choose to sign up and start
using the app/ website. We can see this through the Terms and Conditions of already existing social medias, similar to
mine, for example, Spotify.
REVENUE OF APP
In order to make sure the application is able to make any kind of profit from the use of the
app, also having people download the app, the use of adverts will always be most reliable
source of income. I will have to pay a certain cost to be able to advertise my app as it
depends on what kind of advert I will be looking to use, and where the advert will be placed,
but also how big the advert will be. There are varied costs with adverts depending on those
factors. In order to be able to gain downloads, site visits and uses, and also gain a significant
amount of Subscriptions, I will have to advertise the product really well, and think smartly
about how I will advertise it, and where.
Social Media Advertising:
The ads can vary in cost dependent on the factors discussed above, and also on the Social
Media Agency that you choose to advertise with. It varies with a Social Media Agency
because it depends on the experience level they have, the size of the Business that you are
(How big the app is or social media is), the suite services you wish to hire (and many more
factors). Social Media Advertising can cost between $1,000 to $20,000 a month. Source:
https://www.contentfac.com/how-much-does-social-media-marketing-cost/
The reason to why I have chosen this type of revenue source is because I feel that it will be
the most effective and it will hold most relevance to the targeted audience for my app as it
will consist of the favored clothing brands for example Nike.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion to this, I have looked into what the product will be capable of and how
it could possibly overtake other social media platforms in popularity. However, the
main focus of this specific section of unit 35 is to go into depth on how the app will
be made and to show the process. I looked at the expected revenue from the app,
and how exactly this will be made, as this is the most important factor in making
revenue easily, and ensuring that further development is occurring in which we allow
the users of the app to give us feedback and changes which they could expect to see
in future updates of the app/website. Lastly, I have looked at the ethical and legal
issues through which the app would be controlled, created and published as it will
make sure to control the level of safety within the application.

Unit 35 lo3

  • 1. 00
  • 2. PURPOSE OF THE PRODUCT: • The purpose of my application is to give my users a platforms a place to talk to their friends and share what they do from day-to-day. Further to this, I will be looking into the faults of the current most popular social media platforms such as Instagram. Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter. Going through the reviews for these applications and picking out what they dislike and I will use this to my advantage in making my creation a lot better and more of a competition for the more popular platforms. • I am looking into making my own social media platform where everyone who uses it will be able to share their day-to-day experiences with everyone. The most popular app that is more similar to my idea than any other is Snapchat, this means that I will have to make sure that my design is unique in comparison to Snapchat because this will mean that I will be able to draw more people in because of this, also in order to make sure that my app was to win over the more loyal users I will have to have something big in difference with Snapchat. Content: • Looking over the whole app, I will be looking to create an app in which the people using this will be able to talk and share with their friends. Further to this, the app will be similar to other big social media platforms such as Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram. This will allow them to connect with a lot of people in similarities and hobbies etc.
  • 3. TARGET USER Hartley’s 7 subjectivities Age: My application will be more appealing to those who are over 13 years old but no older that 25 due to the content, layout and purpose of this app. Gender: this application will have no targeted gender as it can be used by everyone due to it being mainly used for interaction with your friends. Class: this will mostly be used by people within the social classes of C1, C2, D and E as it would be targeted towards people in the lower-middle class. Ethnicity: being based in the UK, the vast majority of my users will be based in the UK. Katz’ Uses and Gratifications theory Personal identification: Looking at what content my app will include, it will be relatable to some people that view it. They will be able to relate to it as they will be used to the functions already on other social media apps that they use. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Social climbers: knowing that the majority of my users and target audience are going to be around 13-20 years old they will be intrigued with the celebrity section to my app where they will be able to see new updates to do with some of their favorite celebrities.

  • 10. PRODUCTION PLAN Week beginning Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday All of the different teams that have been assigned to creating this app will be given a deadline in which they will have a given time to finish their given task. Further to this, the app construction and design and also final development are all part of the process to make sure it is a success when released The team given the task of editing will start creating and constructing all of the different graphics that are required. At this stage in the production plan all of the information that is needed in order to make the app a success. Everything has to be working correctly such as the stories, friends and others as these are the main parts to the application so if they don’t work then it will impact the take off with the app and the customers. This is the stage where the teams come together, decide what fonts will be used, what animations/movements will exist where and how they will work, and further test secondary functions for the app. On this day, we will have an outsider come and test the app so that they will be able to give us an honest opinion on the app telling us what is in need of improvement and what is working perfectly. This is necessary process at this stage as this will mean that we will have a rough idea on how successful the app will be once it is released to the public. Completed by 27th January 28th January 29th January 30th January 31st January
  • 11. PRODUCTION PLAN Week beginning Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday On this date, the developers of the app will go over it and improve the UI and include all of the features which it should include. The Connection system for ‘Stream Together’ will be added on and tested. This will be done by downloading the app or using the online UI to log in and test it using Test accounts. This is where the engineers will be given the job of looking through the results on testing of the app and mainly on the functionality of this. After this, there will be a beta version released to the public where they will be able to use the app for themselves and then after the slotted time of which the app has been released then this will mean that they will given a link where they will have to fill out a survey answering the questions that are most commonly asked. On this day, the designers of the app will receiving the feedback received from the users of the beta application and they will work on the final version where they will make sure there is no issues where people will have a reason to give it a bad review. If there are to be changes in place then this will mean that they will be made and confirmed by the next day. Completed by 1st February 2nd February 3rd February 4th February 5th February
  • 12. LAUNCH DATE AND WHY The launch date is going to be the 5th of February 2019. From my researching I believe there are no other big events happening on this date. This will mean that my launch of my App/Website will not having any inferences from other big events so people will hopefully be focused on the opening of my creation.

Th table on the right is the breakdown explaining the costs of some of the important steps to create the website.
  • 14. EXPECTED REVENUE AND HOW IT WILL BE MADE Advertisements will be the main source of revenue within the app, if the users choose to follow the adverts this will be recorded allowing us to see if the adverts are working and then this will allow us to make profits from the adverts. Further to this, there will be in-app purchases that will be available where they will be able to pay for filter so that they will be able to keep it forever, and also there will be a feature where they will be given the chance to pay to make a filter of their own costing around £3-5 depending on the amount of layers on the filter.
  • 15. LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES • Open Meetings Act: The open meetings act ensures that government decision making and legislation should be made publically. The communications which take place on social media platforms have now gotten to a stage where they pose a threat or can introduce conflict within Open Meetings because it is such a new form of communication and the court cannot provide the guidance for the use of social media, by these people. Any form of communication or contact on social media could impose these people to have action taken against them due to their actions online and on social media platforms, therefore leaving them vulnerable to their own actions. • Freedom of Information Act: Any information that goes onto or is used in social media and posted online or publicized in general, can be used and seen by the Government, they can see and state/control what each and every single user posts online. Discrimination: Many people across the world do not have access to the internet, and so do not have access to social media. People using social media sites or apps(on mobile devices)m should try and communicate with the whole world, and do this using more than one media platform to do so. They shouldn’t just be using social media to report things in the world, they should be using the more traditional methods as well, as this allows for variety and inclusion by them, inclusion for the rest of the world, who aren’t as evolved in technology as the majority of the Western world. This would ensure that everyone can get access to this news and these reports, regardless of where they are. • Copyright Issues: Social media users need to be more aware, regardless of who they are, of what they post online on any social media website. They should be more aware of what they post, just in case they end up infringing Copyright on some content, and then facing legal action against themselves. For example, on YouTube, a user cannot use a song within their own video for more than 30 seconds, therefore placing themselves in a potential risk. There is however a way of overcoming this and making sure that as a user of YouTube, they are protected, and quite simply this is by gaining the permission of the owner of the song, to use it in their video. • Privacy: Many social media platforms, now allow their users to set their own Privacy settings, which allows them to control a number of things, for example, who views their profile, who can post comments and other content on the profile, and who can search for their social media page or channel. This is the one main way in which users can protect their privacy on social media sites, and control who does what on their user profile, as these settings are created and personalized for each individual user of the social media, therefore remaining personal to them and able to be more ‘Private’ than other people on these sites. For example, we would see on social media platforms such as Instagram, you can set your Profile to be Private, therefore people have to ask permission to follow you, and you choose whether or not to let them follow your Bio. • https://www.in.gov/ig/files/Julie_Tappendorf.pdf
  • 16. LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES Copyright is the legal right that has the ability to protect the use of your work once it has been put out there for everyone to see. The UK legislation for the use of copyright is that if anyone wants to use your work then they have to make sure that they are authorized to use it by the creator or people who may be in the position to grant access to it. Most of the time the indication that tells you whether something is copyrighted then there will be the common sign (©). IP (intellectual property) Is something which has a unique aspect to it that no one has come up with or has created before yourself. An example of this would be my very own website Jinx because it is unique which makes it my intellectual property. Royalties will be given to those who own any of the content, such as the artists owning the songs that the users are playing. This means each time a user plays a song, a small fee is paid to the artist who wrote that song. For my website to be safe for my users I will have something put in place for all ages where I will prevent them from using any kind of blasphemy. The reason for this is because I want to be the first social media platform that steps in to make sure I can reduce the amount of bullying that occurs on my platfrom.
  • 17. GUIDELINES AND CONDITIONS • The web standards project: • In terms of guidelines and conditions, I would look at using WaSP, as they fight for Standards that help to reduce the complexity of development and increasing the accessibility of any site published on the web. They work with other browser companies, authoring tool makers, and peers, in order to deliver the correct standards, and the right standards that people would and should expect. https://www.webstandards.org/about/index.html • The world wide web consortium: • I would then use the W3C as they work together (Full-Time staff and Public), in order to develop web standards for websites and such relevant things. Their mission is to “Lead the Web to its full potential”. I would use them as they look at developing and continuously looking into the web, and its standards, and trying to find any possible way to improve it and make the standards more relevant, and more accurate for every publisher of a website, and all of the users of the Web, that would be using these websites. • https://www.w3.org/Consortium/ • Terms and Conditions: • For the terms and conditions of the Website/ App, I would go through the standard, necessary ones, and also look at the secondary feature, therefore have to imply more conditions of use and so on, because of this feature. When we look at terms and conditions of already existing Applications and Social Media Websites, we would see that they go through the standard rules of the app/social media, and also the rules that users have to follow if they do choose to sign up and start using the app/ website. We can see this through the Terms and Conditions of already existing social medias, similar to mine, for example, Spotify. • https://www.spotify.com/uk/legal/end-user-agreement/
  • 18. REVENUE OF APP In order to make sure the application is able to make any kind of profit from the use of the app, also having people download the app, the use of adverts will always be most reliable source of income. I will have to pay a certain cost to be able to advertise my app as it depends on what kind of advert I will be looking to use, and where the advert will be placed, but also how big the advert will be. There are varied costs with adverts depending on those factors. In order to be able to gain downloads, site visits and uses, and also gain a significant amount of Subscriptions, I will have to advertise the product really well, and think smartly about how I will advertise it, and where. Social Media Advertising: The ads can vary in cost dependent on the factors discussed above, and also on the Social Media Agency that you choose to advertise with. It varies with a Social Media Agency because it depends on the experience level they have, the size of the Business that you are (How big the app is or social media is), the suite services you wish to hire (and many more factors). Social Media Advertising can cost between $1,000 to $20,000 a month. Source: https://www.contentfac.com/how-much-does-social-media-marketing-cost/ The reason to why I have chosen this type of revenue source is because I feel that it will be the most effective and it will hold most relevance to the targeted audience for my app as it will consist of the favored clothing brands for example Nike.
  • 19. BUDGET Type of website Features Ideal for Design cost Basic - Brochure style - One to five pages and a landing page - Responsive, with a contact page Self-employed workers Small businesses in traditional industries £200 – £500 Small business - Brochure style - Several pages - Social media integration £500 - £1,000 Ecommerce All the features of a small business website. This can all be dependent on the specific type of website you wish to create.
  • 20. CONCLUSION In conclusion to this, I have looked into what the product will be capable of and how it could possibly overtake other social media platforms in popularity. However, the main focus of this specific section of unit 35 is to go into depth on how the app will be made and to show the process. I looked at the expected revenue from the app, and how exactly this will be made, as this is the most important factor in making revenue easily, and ensuring that further development is occurring in which we allow the users of the app to give us feedback and changes which they could expect to see in future updates of the app/website. Lastly, I have looked at the ethical and legal issues through which the app would be controlled, created and published as it will make sure to control the level of safety within the application.
