  1. 1. How To Make A Bow Hannah Matthews
  2. 2. ● Wood (Hemlock, Mahogany, ) ● Bow String (You can get it a Cabelas) ● Nuts and Bolts ● Varnish ● Sand Paper ● Chisel ● Mitre Saw ● Jigsaw ● Measuring Tape ● Wood Planer ● Foam Paint Brush What you will Need ● Drill ● 1/4 Drill Bit
  3. 3. Items Needed: Mitre Saw JigSaw Sander Wood Step 1 For the Riser. The measurements are 4x4cm and, the length should be 35cm. There is no template for the riser; you will have to draw it by sight. Cut the edges to an angle that you Prefer, and then sand them. Until it’s smooth. Riser
  4. 4. Items Needed: Wood Mitre Saw Chisel Drill Step 2 The Limbs should be 7 mm thick, and 6.5cm wide.. The Length should be 28cm long. I used Hemlock, but you can use any of the types I listed, Sand until smooth. Measure about 1 inch down from the end of the Wood. Chisel about .5 cm into the wood. This groove is where the string is going to be strung. Limbs
  5. 5. Step 3 This is the fun part! This is where you can get as creative as you want. Staining or painting your bow does not affect the Finished project. I choose to stain my bow. I used a Foam Paint Brush, and Put Two layers of stain on the wood. So have fun creating your design Staining Items Needed: Stain Foam Paint Brush/Cloth
  6. 6. Items Needed: Varnish Foam Paint Brush Hand Sander Step 4 To Varnish the wood you need a Foam Paint brush. Start by spreading a Thin layer of varnish, You will need to do one side at a time (This will require Patience). After every layer sanding will be required. You need at least Four Layers of Varnish on the wood. WARNING: Don’t put the varnish on too thick Don’t over sand. As this will cause the varnish to come off Varnishing the bow
  7. 7. Items Needed: Limbs Riser Nuts and Bolts String. Step 5 The limbs are placed on top of the riser. Where you created your desired angle. Push the bolts into the holes in the limbs, and riser. Secure them with a nut. Using a Screwdriver tighten the bolts so your limbs won’t move around. Make sure that they are very secure. WARNING: 1. Watch your wood, so it doesn't crack. Putting the Bow Together
  8. 8. Items Needed: Limbs Riser Nuts and Bolts String. Step 5 Continued... Now the string is the tricky part. This took me a while to put on. I bought a 60 inch string, but if I were to do it again; I would recommend a 58 inch string. Here is the instructions to make your own string: Tie Two loops in your string. From the end of one loop to the other it should be 58 inches. The Loop should be very tight so that when you push it down it will seat in the groove. If the string is too long twist the string and it will become shorter. This is the hard part. The string needs to be tight! You may require someone to help you. Putting the Bow Together
  9. 9. Items Needed: Your new Bow! Arrows Target Step 6 You're Done Congratulations! You can now shoot your bow! Test it out! See how far it throws! Most of all Have Fun and be safe!! Shoot your bow!
