2. Question 1 - Gender I decided to ask the first question based on gender. This is because I could then look at my results to see which genders were interested in which music etc. This graph shows that out of the 20 people I asked, 10 of them were male and 10 of them were female. I did this because I thought it would be fair to do half of each gender to get a reliable set of results.
3. Question 2 - Age I also decided to ask the age of the 20 people I asked. I did this by separating my question into six age categories for the people I asked to choose from. I think that by knowing peoples ages, it is helpful because I will be able to see which age groups prefer what. This graph shows me that most of the people I asked were under 18. However I asked at least 2 people from each age group so that my results would be more wide spread and so I could analyse which age groups were interested in what music genres and their preferences of music video etc.
4. Question 3 – Do you watch music videos? I believe that this was a helpful question to ask because it shows me which gender and age group are the most common to watching music videos. This question also tells me how popular music videos are or not based on the 20 people I asked. This graph tells me that out of the people I asked, 14 of them watch music videos whereas 6 of them don’t. This shows that most people do tend to watch music videos as more than 70% of the people asked responded with yes.
5. Question 4 – How often? From the previous question, I then thought it would be interesting to find out how often each of the people who answered ‘yes’ to question 3 watching music videos. This graph shows that out of the people I asked, the results for how often they watch music videos all varied, therefore the results for this were not very helpful and there were no obvious trends.
6. Question 5 – How do you view music videos? I also decided to ask the question of how does each person who watches music videos access and view them? I thought that this would provide me with knowledge of the most popular way that people access music videos. This graph shows that music channels is definitely the most popular way of viewing music videos, closely followed by the internet. Video devices and mobile phones are not very popular to view music videos out of the people that I asked.
7. Question 6 - Genres I thought it would also be really helpful to find out what music genres were most popular out of the 20 people I asked. Although the results are quite wide spread, it is clear that the most popular three genres are pop, rock, and R&B music. Therefore this does not give me a specific favourite so does not help me as much as I had hoped.
8. Question 7 – The Artist I was interested to find out people’s opinions on whether or not they thought that the artist should be included in the music video to their song. This graph shows that the results are equal to yes or no answers. This means that this is not helpful to my research at all because there was no preference in answers.
9. Question 8 – Content of the Video After having learnt about the methods of illustration and disjuncture, I thought it would be useful to find out which type of music video people preferred. This graph shows that illustration music videos are doubly more popular than disjuncture videos. This means that most of the people I asked prefer a music video which links to the lyrics and tells a story. This may help in my research because it means I now know which type of video is preferred.
10. Question 9 – Opinion on Special affects I thought it would also be helpful to ask whether or not people liked the use of special affects in music videos. The results from this question show that most people either don’t like or don’t mind special affects in a music video; therefore meaning that they are not an important feature of a video. However, 9 people did state they liked music videos. This means that approximately half like them, and half do not or do not mind. This means that these results are not as helpful as they could be.
11. Question 10 – Favourite music video I asked the question of what is your favourite music video. This meant that I was hoping for a wide range of answers and opinions on what the people I asked favourites were. This meant that I could also find out why they liked it and use it to research what features are good in a music video. However a few of the people I asked did not have a favourite music video. Artists/bands such as Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, and Neyo were all mentioned, however Michael Jackson was chosen three times, two of which being Thriller. The reasons for the choices of favourite music videos were often due to reasons such as the video being fun, exciting with something always going on. This question helped me to see what features people want and expect from music videos and the reasons behind this.
