8. Introduction to Blochistan
• Balochistan (Urdu: ,)بلوچستان is one of the four
provinces of Pakistan. The name Balochistan means the
“land of the Baloch” in many regional languages.
The capital city is Quetta .
The economy of Balochistan is largely based upon the
production of natural gas, coal and other minerals.
Other important economic sectors include fisheries,
mining, manufacturing industries, trade and other
services being rendered by public and private sector
organizations.
9. Balochistan situated
• Balochistan is situated in the south-west of
Pakistan and covers an area of 347,190 square
kilometers (134,050 sq miles). It is Pakistan’s
largest province by area constituting 44% of
Pakistan’s total land mass. The province is
bordered by Afghanistan to the north and north-
west, Iran to the south-west, Punjab and Sindh,
and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federally
Administered Tribal Areas to the north-east. To
the south lies the Arabian Sea. Balochistan is
located on the south-eastern part of the Iranian
plateau.

11. History of Blochistan
Balochistan has an eventful history dating back
to the Stone Age. Recent research and
archaeological excavations at Mehrgarh have
revealed 9000 years old civilization.
Marking the beginning of The Muslim rule began
in 712 A.D.
The Muslim rule was followed by the British rule
in 1839.
12. LANGUAGES:
• The language spoken by Baloch people is Balochi.
Today only about 3% of Pakistani population
speaks this language. Most of the people in the
cities and towns understand and speak more
than two languages. In adddition to Balochi,
Pashtoo and Brahvi, the majority of the
population understand and speak Urdu, the
national language. In Kachhi and Sibi districts,
people speak Seraiki and Sindhi. Quetta city, the
confluence point of all linguistic groups
accommodates not only Urdu.
13. ARTS AND MUSIC:
• Baloch has a rich musical culture. A special
religious dance is carried out by a Baloch sect
known as Chogaa. Another common Baloch folk
dance is known as Dochaap. In this dance men
gather and dance in groups, clapping hands with
the movement of foot, neck and head with
rhythmical music on drums. Other dances include
the Lewa, which is thought to be of Arabic origin,
along with Latti and Hambo said to be of ancient
Balochi origin, are also very popular.
15. LIFESTYLE:
• Due to the rugged and irregular terrain,
agricultural activities are difficult to carry out.
The scarcity of a plentiful supply of water is
another reason for this province to remain
neglected in agricultural developments. As a
result, people mainly lead a nomadic lifestyle
bringing up their animals and moving from place
to place in search of pastures. Baloch people are
extremely hospitable. A guest is a mark of respect
and held in honor. Even the enemy, once entered
in the house, would get the treatment of an
honored guest.
17. • The mode of dress among the Balochi, Pashtoon
and Brahvi tribes is very similar having a few
minor dissimilarities. Turban is the common
headwear of the men. Wide loose shalwar (a bit
similar to loose trouser) and knee-long shirts are
worn by all. The dress of the woman consists of
the typical shirt having a big pocket in front. The
shirt normally has embroidery work with
embedded small round mirror pieces. Big
‘Dopatta’ or ‘Chaddar’, a long rectangular piece
of cloth cascading down the shoulders and used
to cover head, are used by the women
20. Food of Balochistan
• Blochistani cuisine refers to the food and
cuisine of the bloch people from the Blochistn
region .
• Bloch food has a regional variance in contrast
to many other cuisines of pakistan .
• Dampukht is also Blotchy dish which is
prepared with meet and also cooked in fast .
