DETAILS ABOUT THE PROGRAM
DAY 1 CUSCO – WAYLLABAMBA – YUNCACHIMPA
We will start our journey early in the morning, leaving Cusco at 5:30 am in a touristic bus
destined for the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Before arriving at our starting point, we will
have a short rest in Ollantaytambo, where you will have the possibility to buy yourself a
breakfast. The official start of the Inca Trail is the so called Km 82, here we will meet up
with the rest of the group and make the registration process. After crossing the river Uru-
bamba (2200 meters) we will begin the legendary Inca Trail. The first day of our trip is easy
and a good warm-up for the following days of trekking. In Miskay we will have lunch by
the river, where our guide will give us information about the archaeological complex of
Llactapata. After this we will continue our walk to Wayllabamba (3100 meters) and
ascend to Yuncachimpa (3300 meters), where we will spend the night in camping tents.
From here we will have a great view of the mysterious mountain La Verónica.

DAY 2 YUNCACHIMPA - WARMIHUAÑUSCA - PACAYMAYU - RUNKURAKAY PASAR –
CHAQUICOCHA
The second day is the ‘Free-Hike-Day’, which means that everyone will walk at his own
pace, but of course meeting group again during the short breaks. Early in the morning
the trail will first lead us through the Llulluchapampa valley (3850 meters), from here we
will continue the walk for 2 or 3 hours until we arrive at the highest point of the trail, the
Warmihuañusca (pass of the woman – 4200 meters); this section is known as the most
difficult part of the Inca Trail. After a short rest on the summit we will continue the walk
downhill on a large, serpentine path to the river Pacaymayu onwards to the pass of
Runkurakay (3050 meters) until we arrive at our encampment called Chaquicocha (3650
meters); here you can relax while enjoying an impressive view of the mountains.
DAY 3 CHAQUICOCHA - PHUYUPATAMARCA – WIÑAYWAYNA
The third day is the most beautiful. You will notice a change in the ecosystem while wal-
king through the tropical forest of Wiñayhuayna. It is a gentle climb through a beautiful
cloud forest and a small Inca tunnel before the third pass (3700 meters) will offer a mag-
nificent view over the valley of Urubamba. The village closest to here is called Phuyupata-
marka “city over the clouds” (3600 meters); a well conserved place with Inca baths, where
you can enjoy the impressive, ancient engineering. We will pass through the other Inca
tunnel before visiting the ruins of Wiñaywayna “always young” (2650 meters). The Inca
staircases will change to a zigzag path that heads towards a building with red roof. Our
final camp will be with warm water and bottled drinks.
DAY 4 WIÑAYHUAYNA - MACHUPICHU – CUSCO
After our breakfast at 4:30 am we will head - all equipped with our lamps – to Inti Punku
(Sun Gate) in order to obtain the first look on Machupicchu and to see the sunrise on the
mountain. Our final ascend of triumph will take about 1 hour until we can visit the citadel
of Machupicchu (2400 meters), roughly 8 am. You can enjoy its spiritual charm during
your guided visit (around 2 hours), which will help you understand the significance and the
ancient use of the different buildings. After this tour you will have enough time to explore
the archaeological site on your own (for example to go to the Inca Bridge, to explore the
variety of buildings or to climb up to Huaynapicchu to take an incredible picture of the
scenery). Afterwards a bus will drive you back down to Aguas Calientes, where you can
have lunch. We will leave Aguas Calientes in the afternoon, returning to Ollantaytambo by
train, and then to Cusco by bus.
