Presentation is all about the Sexual Harassment on the women in the workplace and also talks about the law to protect women against these kind of inhuman activities.
2. What is Sexual Harassment ?
o Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual
favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a
sexual nature.
o SEXUAL HARASSMENT is a behavior.
o It is defined as unwelcome behavior of a sexual
nature.
o For example, a man whistles at a woman when she
walks by. Or a woman looks a man up and down when
he walks towards her.
3. SEX DISCRIMINATION
•SEX DISCRIMINATION is a behavior. It occurs
when employment decisions are based on an
employees sex or when an employee is
treated differently because of his or her sex.
4. Four Ways of Sexual Harassment
• Referring to an adult as a girl, hunk, doll, babe, or honey
• Whistling at someone, cat calls
• Making sexual comments about a person's body
• Making sexual comments
• Turning work discussions to sexual topics
• Telling sexual jokes or stories
VERBAL
5. • Asking personal questions about social or sexual life
• Making kissing sounds, howling, and smacking lips
• Making sexual comments about a person's clothing, , or
looks
• Repeatedly asking out a person who is not interested
• Telling lies or spreading rumors about a person's personal
sex life
6. NON-VERBAL
• Looking a person up and down (Elevator eyes)
• Staring at someone
• Blocking a person's path
• Following the person
• Giving personal gifts
• Displaying sexually suggestive visuals
• Making sexual gestures with hands or through body
movements
• Making facial expressions such as winking, throwing kisses, or
licking lips
7. PHYSICAL
• Giving a massage around the neck or shoulders
• Touching the person's clothing, hair, or body
• Hugging, kissing, patting, or stroking
• Touching or rubbing oneself sexually around another
person
• Standing close or brushing up against another person
8. Textual/Electronic
•Electronically sending messages with sexual
content, including pictures and video
•The use of sexually explicit language,
harassment, cyber stalking and threats via all
forms of electronic communication (e-mail,
text/picture/video messages, intranet/on-line
postings, blogs, instant messages and social
network websites like Facebook and Twitter).
9. TYPES OF SEXUAL
HARASSMENT
Quid Pro Quo – Latin term meaning “this for
that”. The term refers to conditions placed
on a person’s career or terms of
employment in return for sexual favors.

HARASSMENT
Hostile Environment – occurs when soldiers or
civilians are subjected to offensive, unwanted
and unsolicited comments or behaviors of a
sexual nature. Classified as hostile if behavior
unreasonably interferes with their
performance.

13. TECHNIQUES
- Direct Approach – Confront harasser and tell
him/her that the behavior is not appreciated.
Use common courtesy.
-Indirect Approach – Send a letter to the harasser
stating the facts, personal feelings about the
inappropriate behavior and possible resolution.
14. TECHNIQUES
-Third Party – Request assistance from another
person.
- Chain of Command – Report the behavior to
immediate supervisor or others in chain of
command.
- File a Formal Complaint – take action to formally
file a complaint.
15. THE PROTECTION OF WOMEN AGAINST
SEXUAL HARASSMENT AT WORKPLACE
BILL,
o To provide protection against sexual harassment of
women at workplace and for the prevention and
redressal of complaints of sexual harassment and
formatters connected therewith or incidental
thereto.
oIt extends to the whole of India.

16. Indian Penal Code
•Section 294 –
Does any obscene act in any public place, or (b) sings,
recites and utters any obscene songs, ballads or words,
in or near any public space.
Punishment - three months, or with fine, or with both.

Punishment - punished with imprisonment for a term which
may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

20. In India
• Policemen in Punjab were seen clearly on camera hitting a
young woman who allegedly tried to complain about
harassment by a truck driver. The shocking footage was shot
on a cellphone by a witness.
