In the global competition environment,the companies’ areas of usage regarding derivative financial products becamewidespread and these instruments started to take an important place in theliability statements of the businesses. In terms of financial accounting, thecompanies need to reflect the usage of derivative financial products in theirfinancial statements, and in terms of administrative accounting, they searchfor methods that will facilitate the follow-ups for the performance assessmentand decision making procedures regarding the processes of large scalederivatives. The companies making investments in thederivatives in hopes of risk management or speculation acquire mutual rightsand liabilities through the contracts they make. For the assessment andrecognition of these rights and liabilities, the standards numbered TMS 32, TMS39, TFRS 7 and TFRS 9 were published by the Public Oversight Authority ofTurkey. These standards coincide with the standards published by theInternational Accounting Standards Board (IASB). In this study, attention is drawn to theassessment and recognition of the derivatives in line with the aforementionedstandards, and alternative solutions are discussed.

The potential of smart contracts – programmable contracts that automatically execute when pre-defined conditions are met – is the subject of much debate and discussion in the financial services industry. Smart contracts, enabled by blockchain or distributed ledgers, have been held up as a cure for many of the problems associated with traditional financial contracts, which are simply not geared up for the digital age. Reliance on physical documents leads to delays, inefficiencies and increases exposure to errors and fraud. Financial intermediaries, while providing interoperability for the finance system and reducing risk, create overhead costs for and increase compliance requirements. In this report, we aim to cut through the speculation and hype around the potential of smart contracts. We have conducted detailed discussions with financial services industry professionals, prominent smart contract startups and academics (see Research Methodology at the end of this paper). Our study confirms that smart contract adoption will lead to reduced risks, lower administration and service costs, and more efficient business processes across all major segments of the financial services industry. These benefits will accrue from technology, process redesign as well as from fundamental changes in operating models, as they require a group of firms to share a common view of the contract between trading parties. Consumers will benefit from more competitive products, such as mortgage loans and insurance policies, along with simpler processes that are free of many of the hassles of today’s customer experience.

For example if you're in actuarial science major, you will like the right making section. Many students found they want to go into underwriting and there's a good portion of the chapter on the underwriting steps and different types of consideration to beginning the underwriting process. Some students know right away that they're interested in sales while others know for certain that is not their strong interest. The production side of insurance covers again some of the marketing topics that we had earlier, but it will also tell you how professional organizations, such as the CPCU Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and the CLU Chartered Life Underwriter, are among others that encourage professionals within the industry to continuously improve their skills and knowledge by completing professional designations. Another area within the insurance industry that is fascinating and offers a great insight into many facets of the insurance process is claims settlement. There are various types of adjusters that are discussed in this chapter and the steps to the adjusting process is fairly structured. Entering the insurance industry through a claims position will provide insight into how the insurance industry can operate successfully. Reinsurance is kind of a term that many young professionals are not fully able to grasp but it is a very key tool used to sustain the insurance industry. Reinsurance, as noted on slide 15, is an arrangement by which the primary insurer that initially writes the coverage transfers to another insurer part of those potential losses. The primary insurer is called the seating company, and the company that accepts that seeded risk is the reinsure. This process allows companies to increase their underwriting capacity and reduce their reserves which may be more optimally invested elsewhere. Insurance Regulation Chapter 8 brings up several very interesting topics concerning the purpose of regulating the insurance industry and how the regulation may be efficiently accomplished. I typically ask the classroom students “what is the main reason for insurance regulation?” Most of them, being new in their study of insurance, say it is to keep the prices down. Then I respond by asking: do you think we need regulation to ensure the price of groceries is kept at a certain level? Do you think the price of a car should be regulated by the federal government?
