Masquerade Dance
WOW! The Masquerade has come and gone. I hope the 8th graders
enjoyed the dance as much as I did. We were able to borrow some of the most
beautiful masks that I have ever seen. They helped transform the Commons
from a school cafeteria to a magical dance setting.
There were so many who had a part in making the dance a success, I do
not know who to thank first. The NJHS students helped from the start to the
finish. As parents, we have so much to be proud of and thankful for in our
children. Darlene Selmarten, Angela Schroeder, and Kim Scofield took the
"common" out of the Commons. Merita Parker , Kim Holt, Lisa Roberts, and
Betty Squires made the food tables look as good as the food tasted. And yes,
we had more than just corndogs and water! April McCluskey gets a big hug
for stickering both mail-outs. Sherrie Jones, Marilyn Sobotik, Suzie Wilson,
Doyle Richter, and Karen Zimpfer sat through all those lunches selling tickets.
And last, but not least, Luis and Sandra Orosco took pictures from the time the
doors opened until the dance was over. Luis took over 200 pictures! And a
great big thank you to Mrs. Vitek, Ms. Thomas, Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Rogers and
all of the Space Center teachers who helped chaperone the dance.
It was truly my pleasure to work with all these wonderful teachers, par-
ents and their children.

Nominating Committee Seeks Input
The PTA Nominating Committee is currently working to complete the slate of
nominees for next year's PTA elected board positions. The offices of President
and Treasurer need to be filled. If you are interested in one of these positions or
you know of someone who might be interested, please email one of the nominat-
ing committee’s members. We are hoping for a smooth transition into finding a
complete set of officers for the next school year.
Thank you so much!

Notes from the Nurse
6th Grade Parents or Guardians:
Please take note of the following changes for your current 6th grade student for the next 2010-
2011 school year. Immunization requirements for 7th graders have changed as of March 5, 2009.
Please review your student’s immunization record to make sure that he/she is in compliance.
The following vaccinations are required for all students entering the 7 th grade:
* Meningococcal Vaccine
* Varicella Vaccine – 2nd dose (unless history of disease)
* Tdap Vaccine – Booster dose requirement within the last five years
You may forward any updated immunization records to the clinic by mail, email or fax. Addi-

National Junior Honor Society
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students were busy serving the community during
the month of February. Members volunteered at school fairs at both Falcon Pass and Armand
Bayou Elementary Schools. We also assisted in Fun Runs at Brookwood, Clear Lake City and
Northpoint Elementary Schools.
Our biggest project was the 8th grade dance. We enjoyed being the first SCIS class to help
organize and plan the dance. The “Masquerade” Dance was a lot of fun, as well as a big success.
NJHS students helped select the music, plan the menu, make posters, and help to set up
and clean up for the dance. We also donated $250 towards the cost of renting the dance floor.
The next meeting for current members will be on Friday, March 12th in the Library at
8:15.
All seventh graders wishing to be a part of the NJHS should submit their completed ap-
plications to Mrs. Vitek by March 3rd.

Orchestra Notes
We are so proud of all our students who participated in the solo and ensemble
contest on February 20th. The students performed an assigned piece of music before
a panel of judges. If the students were nervous, they sure did not show it. Once
again, our solo and ensemble contestants shined! Congratulations and way to go
virtuosos!
February 6th found the Chamber orchestra fiddlin’ up a little Cotton-Eyed Joe
at the Falcon Pass Elementary School carnival. It was great to get the chance to show
off our talents for the younger set. On February 27 th, we showed off our solos and
ensembles in performances at Barnes & Noble, who thanked the students by donating
a portion of their proceeds to our orchestra program. Thank you to everyone who
came out and supported the kids.
The next few months will be crazy for our Space Center Orchestras. On March
5 th, we will be having some fun with an event we call March Madness. We’ll head to
Incredible Pizza for dinner and then return to Space Center to play games until
Midnight. No instruments on this night – just Rock n Roll and FUN!
The advanced students are preparing for the UIL competition coming up.
Philharmonic and Chamber will compete on March 31st and Symphony and Chamber
will be compete on April 9 th. We know these students will make Space Center proud!
On March 8th , these students will showcase the music they are preparing with a
concert at University Baptist Church.
The SCIS Fiddle Club has started - every Thursday morning at 8:15. We are
learning Irish and Texas Swing Band Music. Rock The House is meeting every other
Friday. Students are learning to play by ear all the songs they love on their iPods
using Electric Strings!
Please check out the orchestra website for additional information and per-
formance schedules at www.scisorchestra.com.
