3. MS-Visio
MS-Visio is a Vector based Two- Dimensional Drawing Tool. The main Purpose
of MS-Visio is to give Graphical Representation or to give Flow of the
Application.
Image
• An image or picture is an artifact, usually two-dimensional, that has a
similar appearance to some subject-physical object or a person
• Image is made of Pixels. In other words Group of Pixels is called as Image
Pixel
In digital imaging Pixel is the smallest piece of information in an image. Pixels
are normally arranged in 2-D and are often represented as dots or squares or
rectangles. Each pixel is a sample of an original image, where more samples
typically provide a more accurate representation of the original.
Types of Images
Scalar Graphic Image
An image which has only Magnitude (Length) is known as Scalar Graphic Image.
Scalar Images get pixilated (distorted) when resized. Ex: All images found in
computer or webs are scalar images.
Vector Graphic Image
An Image which has both magnitude and direction is known as Vector Graphic
Image. Vector Images doesn’t get pixilated when resized.
Software Difference
1. Image Drawing: Photoshop, Ms-Visio, Corel Draw
2. Image Editing: Photoshop, Paint, SnagIT
3. Image Analysis: Pro-E
4. File Conversion: Irfan View, SnagIT
Types of Shapes
One-Dimensions
4. This contains only one axis i.e. X/Y- axis; it may be Length or Breadth or Height.
Two-Dimension
This contains two axis called X-axis and Y-axis where X-axis is Length and Y-axis
is Height.
Three-Dimension
This contains three axis called X-axis, Y-axis and Z-axis where X-axis is Length,
Y-axis is Height and Z-axis is Breadth.
Types of Colors
RGB (Red Green Blue)
CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow Key(Black))

File Types
Drawing
This is the default source file type of MS-Visio and saved in the format .vsd
(Visio Source Drawing).
Stencil
This is the file type to save the source in the form of a Stencil and saved in the
format .vss (Visio Source Stencil).
A Stencil is the collection of shapes related to the template which are used in the
current working area. The group of shapes used repetitively can be saved as a
Stencil; can be retrieved in the other projects.
Image File Formats
The Diagrams drawn in the MS-Visio can be saved in different image file formats
like:
GIF: Graphical Interchange Format
Jpeg: Joint Photographic Experts Group
Bmp: Bitmap Image
Png: Portable Network Graphic
6. Tiff: Tagged Image File Format

Types of Diagrams
Block diagram
Block diagram is a diagram of a system, in which the principal parts or functions
are represented by blocks connected by lines that show the relationships of the
blocks
Architectural Diagram
An Architectural Model (in Software) is a rich and rigorous diagram, created
using available standards, in which the primary concern is to illustrate a specific
set of tradeoffs inherent in the structure and design of a system or ecosystem
Brainstorming
Brainstorming is a group creativity technique designed to generate a large
number of ideas for the solution to a problem
Flowchart
A flowchart is a schematic representation of an algorithm or a stepwise process,
showing the steps as boxes of various kinds, and their order by connecting these
with arrows. Flowcharts are used in designing or documenting a process or
program
Business Process Diagram
7. A process diagram is a representation of the flow of a real-time business process,
and is composed of the individual steps or activities that make up the process
It can include the conditions that dictate when those activities occur and the
resources required for their performance or execution.
Getting started
Bars Pane
Title bar
Menu bar
Standard bar
Formatting bar
Working Area
This is the sheet where we can draw the different diagrams.
Shapes Pane
This is the collection of all the shapes related to the particular type of Diagram
Tools
Pointer Tool
This is used to drag drop the images from shapes pane to the working sheet and
to move the images from one place to another place in the working sheet
Text Tool
This is used to add text.
Connector Tool
This is used to connect the different shapes in the working area manually.
Auto Connect Tool
This is used to connect the different shapes in the working area automatically.
Drawing Tool
This is used to draw the different shapes like:
Rectangle
Circle
Straight line
Curved line
Backgrounds
8. There are pre-defined Backgrounds in MS-Visio that can be applied as
background to the images
Grouping and Ungrouping
Grouping is the feature in the MS-Visio used to group the different images.
Ungrouping is used to disperse the parts from a single image.
Import
The image created in Visio can be import to Ms Word or any other application
