3. Origin
In the 16th century, immigrants from Spain landed in Cuba
and discovered the Havanese breed.
Havanese were brought back to to Spain where they were
admired for being a lap-dog of Spanish aristocracy.
The Havanese were sometimes referred to as the Havana
Silk Dog or the Spanish Silk Poodle by the Spanish.
4. Origin
The Havanese were
closely related to the,
now extinct, Tenerife
breed, which is an
ancestor of the Bichon
family.
The Havanese breed is
now the National Dog of
Cuba.
The Havanese is the only
breed native to Cuba.
5. Origin – My Thoughts
The Havanese are relatively “old breed” because they were
discovered around the 16th Century (although, they were
only recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1996).
The Spanish were impressed with the Havanese breed and
admired them so much that royalty in Spain owned them;
there must be something good about the breed!
6. Appearance – Body

½ inches tall)
Sturdy and solid physical body
Slightly longer in length than height

black, cream, silver, gold,
brown, blue (can be
multicolored)
Pattern may vary from solid
colored coat to speckled or
stripped
Coat can vary from curly to
wavy hair
Show dogs must have long
coat, puppies coats can be
short
Hypoallergenic

8. Appearance – My
Thoughts
The Havanese is the Havanese can be kept in a
perfect small dog for “puppy cut” to reduce
many families because of maintenance and do not

Havanese are good for
families that may have
allergies to other kinds of
dogs, because they are
hypoallergenic.
