How do we know
 what we know?
*Learning about sources of information
Prehistory vs. History
History is the study of the past, by
  looking at narratives and recorded
accounts of the events of the past.
  So PRE-history is before written
  history. (or before understood written
  history)

Two Types of
   Sources
    Primary- artifacts, first hand
accounts, photographs, original art work,
    video, current and accurate news
                coverage.

 Secondary- analysis, reflections,
hypothesis, interpretive art, third person
   accounts, novels, entertainment.

Do you want to be an Archaeologist?

     -First identify an artifact.

-Create questions that will help you
create a hypothesis to how the object
was used and what it reveals about
              the past.

 - Create a narrative for the object.
What would you ask
   an artifact?
Questions
The basic Who, What, When, Where,
Why, and How is a good place to start.
Remember your goal to is reveal what
this artifact reveals about the past.
Use your knowledge of today’s world
to infer how this item may have been
used.
Creating a Narrative
Write a “story” for your artifact. Who
made it, how, why, and how did it help
the person that made it? What may it
 have seen or experienced?
Narratives may be short or long
 depending on how much you
 discovered through questioning.
Lets try it!
Lets try it!
Line up by Birthday. Interview an artifact.
