3. How To Use a Blog To Facilitate
Learning
There are many different ways to incorporate blogs into a learning
environment. In this article, the author points out some specific ways to
do so. Using a blog to help create easier ways to connect the child to the
learning material, to promote the use of technology, or even to promote
better reading and writing habits are common ways to use blogs in the
educational world.
Nowadays, teachers and educators can even take classes to learn how to
create meaningful online discussions, help with internet safety, and to
even teach themselves how to use blogs. Since blogs and wikis are such
new forms of technology, most teachers probably would need helpful
resources to really learn how to better use this form of technology and
communication.
With using new forms of technology in the classroom, it becomes an easier
and more fun way for students to learn. Using wikis and blogs, students
can communicate WHILE they learn.

When using a blog, wiki, or any sort of new form of
technology, it always comes with some sort of
dangers. When using the Internet, it’s wise to keep in
mind a safe blogging environment.
-Be sure to block and filter out commercial sites.
-Make sure students and parents sign an Acceptable
Use Policy before gaining Internet access.
-Set up meetings to help parents monitor their child’s
use of the Internet.

5. Personal Reflection
I believe this article makes many good points. First off, using
different types of technology in education will definitely both
excite and encourage students about learning. I completely
agree with this article when it states that using blogs can be a
great way to encourage students in both reading and writing.
Also, blogging and using wikis is yet another way to
incorporate communication and learning from student to
student.

6. How To Use Blogs In the Classroom
This article gave many good ideas and pointers on how to use
blogs in education. Some of these tips included: making sure
to use your blog with structure and purpose, use blogging
tools that work, and to make sure you’re promoting “personal
pursuits and expression”.
Also, some kids (especially of young age) may have trouble
differentiating between private and public information.
Therefore, it’s wise for teachers to take this into account when
deciding to use a blog in a classroom or not. Making sure that
students are of proper age for different types of technology is
definitely important.

Using news feeds with your blog could actually help the learning
process. By saving time and being exposed to more opinions,
news feeds are becoming more popular, especially in the

can keep up to date on projects while developing an
awareness for their audience.

8. Personal Reflection
I believe this article definitely pointed out extremely good
suggestions for blogs. It is very important to realize that some
students may not know exactly what should and shouldn’t be
put on-line for all to see. I believe it’s very important to really
analyze your student’s abilities and knowledge of how to use
the Internet before allowing the use of blogs in the classroom.
Also, I think that news feeds are a great way to see other
student’s opinions and be able to get feed back from their
peers. I believe this will allow the students to learn to change
their reading to fit their audience. I think it’s also important
for the student’s to learn how to interact and react to their
peers and their positive criticism.

In many schools, blogging and Internet use are becoming a lot
more popular. This article tells of a few schools and their
experiences with allowing their students to use blogs. In one
school in Quebec City, the students have a personal place to
write what they wish, a place where assignments are posted,
and a place to post and reflect on their past assignments. The
students claim that they enjoy blogging because it gives them,
“a chance to communicate…and motivate to write more”.

5 Different Ways Blogs Can Be Used In Education
- Teachers can use blogs instead of a basic classroom website to
post things like class times, rules, assignments, suggested
reading, etc.
- Teachers can use blogs to link to other Internet materials that
can be used for their classrooms.
- Blogs can be used to organize in class discussions.
- Teachers can organize class seminars and provide summaries
of readings by using blogs.
- Students can be asked to write their own blogs as a part of
their own grade.

11. Personal Reflection
This article gave great suggestions on different ways that
teachers can use blogs. I never thought about using a blog
instead of a classroom website. Especially in college level
classes, this can be a great way to inform students as to what
is happening or what will be happening in the future. Of
course, college students have ways of “happening” to miss
class, and I think it’d be a great way to inform students about
what they missed that day. Even for younger children, it would
be a great way to update parents on what is going on in the
classroom and what they can expect in the near future. Also,
parents could easily contact the teacher, or even the other
parents of children in the class.

12. Conclusion
All in all, I believe blogging can really contribute to many sections of
learning. I think it’s pretty obvious that blogging can really help a
student’s reading and writing skills. Also, it’s definitely a different
and more interesting way of learning. With the right safety
techniques, I believe children can really learn a lot from creating a
blog for school work. I think using new types of technology can be a
very useful skill to have. By using blogs, student’s will learn the
importance of technology and how important it can be in our lives.
Also, I believe student’s using educational blogs will realize how
important their peer’s comments and critiques can be, and how to
put them to good use. After having to create my own blog (see it
here!) and post some of my own assignments on it, I personally can
vouch for blogging. I learned a lot of new things about my own
writing and my peers’ writing as well. It was a big help to have
suggestions and comments on my own work. I believe technology is
beginning to taking a huge role in education, and I think we should
be taking full advantage of it.
