In Denamark, the king has died and his brother, Claudius, has married his wife,
Gertutrde, in order to be the new king. The dead king’s son, Hamlet, is devastated about
his father’s death and about how quickly her mother married his uncle.
The ghost of Hamlet’s dead father appears and tells him that Claudius had killed him.
The ghost asks Hamlet to take revenge on Claudius for mudering him.
Hamlet doesn’t know what to do, he seems to be lost and starts acting as if he was mad.
He wants to prove that his uncle is giulty and he accidentally kills Polonious, Minister
of State, in the process, who is also Ophelia’s father, the woman whom Hamlet is in
love with. However, he rejects Ophelia and she loses her mind and finally commits
suicide (it’s not clear if she actually kills herself or if it’s just an accident). The king,
takes advantage on Laertes’s , Ophelia’s brother and Polonious’s son, grief and anger
and convinces him to have a sword fight with Hamlet.
After poisoning Laertes’s weapon, Claudius prepares a poisoned drink for his nephew,
to make sure of Hamlet’s death. Both Hamlet and his opponent are cut with the
poisoned sword and before he dies, Hamlet, kills his uncle. In the end, Laertes,
Clauidius, Gertrude (she accidentally drinks the poisoned drink made by her husband)
and Hamlet all die. Only Hortario, Hamlet’s loyal friend, remains to keep his promise
and tell the world Hamlet’s story.
