2 egg
whites

1/8 teaspoon
salt

1/8 teaspoon
cream of tartar

1/2 cup sugar

2 peppermint
candy canes,
crushed

Large mixing
bowl

Whisk

Spoon

Baking
sheet

Parchment
paper

Oven

13. Directions
Preheat oven
to 225 degrees
Fahrenheit.

Line the baking
sheet with
parchment
paper.

In a large mixing
bowl, with a
whisk, beat the
egg whites, salt
and cream of
tartar to soft
peaks.

Gradually add
the sugar,
continuing to
beat until
whites form
stiff peaks.

On the baking
sheets with
parchment
paper drop
spoonfulls 1
inch apart.

Sprinkle
crushed
peppermint
candy over
the cookies.

Bake for 1
1/2 hours.

Meringues
should be
completely dry in
the inside. Do
NOT allow them
to brown.

Turn off oven.
Keep door ajar
and let the
meringues sit in
the oven until
completely cool.

store them
for up to 2
months in a
cool, dry
place.
