If They Remember That Their Practice is a Business and Have the Right Team to Succeed.”
Ask yourself: “How do you deal with your patients, who pay their bills late or not at all?”
1) Have a defined credit policy in place and use it period, your practice is a business; if you what to do dentistry
for free, please handle it correctly on the books.
2) Invoice promptly and send statements regularly; admit and correct any mistakes on your part, so as to not give
anyone more reasons to not pay.
3) Always use “Address Service Requested” on your business envelopes, the Post Office will help you locate the
patients who have moved; if they can find them, they will send you the correct address Form #3547 for a small
fee. This will also help your practice’s address file up to date.
4) Contact overdue accounts more often, remember the old adage “The squeaky wheel gets the grease;” follow
the collection laws in your state, in many states businesses are governed by the same collection laws as are
collection agencies.
5) Please use your aging sheet not your heart to collect your fees from patients and your money from the
insurance companies, it is a business; make sure your staff is trained correctly and that they follow your
business procedures.
6) Use a third party earlier, the professionals collectors; free up your staff to do the things you hire them to do, it
was not to do collections they have not been trained. Remember no one collects every single one.
