8. 20 Then they went home and a large crowd
came together once again so that they
weren’t even able to eat food. 21 But
when his family heard about this they set
out with the intention of restraining him
because they said, “He really is out of his
mind.”
9. 22 The scribes who came down from
Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by
Beelzebub and casts out demons by the
prince of demons.” 23 He called to them
and said this to them in parables. “How can
Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is
divided against itself how is it possible for
that kingdom to stand?
10. 26 And if Satan really has risen up against
himself and has been divided he is not able
to stand. His end has come. 27 When
someone enters the house of a strong man
he is not able to plunder his goods unless
he first binds the strong man. Only then
will he be able to plunder his house.
11. 28 Truly I say to you, there is forgiveness for
all kinds of sins and whatever blasphemy they
might commit will be forgiven regardless of
what they might be 29 but whoever
blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never
be forgiven but rather is in danger of eternal
judgment. 30 This was because they said that
he had an unclean spirit.
13. The Q…
1. What has God told us here?
2. What if this happened in me?
3. What do I need to do about this?
14. What has he told us?
• Jesus went home and was greeted by a large
crowd who he ministered to, delaying mealtime.
• His family worried for his wellbeing given his
current focus on ministry.
• A group of teachers came down from Jerusalem
and told people Jesus supernatural power over
demons was itself demonic.
15. What has he told us?
• Jesus explained the nonsense of this
position by referencing common infighting
examples in national and family life.
• Jesus explained that forgiveness is always
on offer, but some postures of heart lock it
out of being received.
26. 27 When someone enters the house of a
strong man he is not able to plunder his
goods unless he first binds the strong
man. Only then will he be able to plunder
his house.
28. 28 Truly I say to you, there is forgiveness for
all kinds of sins and whatever blasphemy they
might commit will be forgiven regardless of
what they might be 29 but whoever
blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never
be forgiven but rather is in danger of eternal
judgment. 30 This was because they said that
he had an unclean spirit.
