What is ADAC?
The Advanced Data Analysis Centre (ADAC) was funded by the University
Strategic Development Fund to support research by the analysis and
interpretation of complex data.
Why is this important?
• Complex data underpins current research
• Innovative analysis can prompt new discoveries
• Excellent research can often be stalled due to a lack of expertise in
conducting data analysis
• ADAC supports high-class research by providing analysts to help with
• development of a research strategy
• grant writing
• interpretation of complex data

4. Example Interactions
• Data generation
– bioinformatic: wet-lab experimentation
– informatic: data acquisition devices / software
• Primary data analysis
– clustering; classification; complex / specialist analysis pipelines
– performing statistical tests
• semi-independent hypothesis testing
– presentation of results (effective graphs, etc.) for manuscripts
• Advice
– what type of data to collect
– how many samples required
– which analysis methods / tools to use

• Available to provide (limited) support without cost
– collaborative (pilot) projects with deliverables
• publications
• proposal submissions
– small ‘micro’ tasks
• e.g. preparing data analysis work packages on proposals
• Available to be costed on proposals
– flexible data analysis work packages
• from days to months to years of time, not necessarily contiguous
• Added value to existing projects
– additional publications at project end
– data archiving at project end
