2. I was in my science class and we were learning about the sun. My teacher was saying, “ The sun is the thing that keeps us alive, it has been alive for about 4.5 billion years.” Then I asked, “what is the sun?”
3. My teacher said, “ The sun is a star, The sun is the only star that can keep us alive even though it is not the closest star to us .”
4. Then one of my classmates said, ” The sun is very hot!” “ Yes, and even on earth you need protection from it, It is about 11,000 degrees on its surface!” “ Wow that is hot!” my friend exclaimed.
5. I asked, “Isn’t the sun HUGE?” “ Yes it is, look at it compared to all the other planets!” my teacher showed us a picture of the sun and the planets. “ “ It takes up about 99% of the solar system!” “ Jupiter takes up most of the rest.”
6. “ But, the sun is very small compared to other stars.” He showed us another picture but this time it was of stars a lot bigger than the sun.
7. I was wondering if the sun helped us any way besides keeping us alive so I asked my teacher. He answered, “ Yes, it does in many ways, For example, it provides heat for plants which we need for food and oxygen, the sun also provides vitamin D for our skin, teeth and bones.”
