2. The Basics
• Two series of coins in gold and silver
• Twelve Chinese Lunar animals per series
• Mouse, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake,
Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig
• Series I Gold – 1996 to 2007
• Series I Silver – 1999 to 2007 (dated 2010!)
• Series II Gold – 2008 to 2019
• Series II Silver – 2008 to 2019
3. Series I
• Gold started in 1996 with Mouse
• Silver started in 1999 with Rabbit, three years later
• Both gold and silver completed in 2007
• Silver has three “double dated” designs with 2007 on the
obverse, and “future” dates on reverse, to wrap the series
up in line with gold:
– 2008 Mouse, 2009 Ox, 2010 Tiger
– Same dates as Series II, but issued in 2007
• Bullion, Proof, Coloured, Gilded, Gilded Coloured, Gem Eye
and Lenticular editions
• Closed mintages – no longer being minted
• Main export market was Europe and North America
4. Series II
• Both started in 2008 with Mouse
• 2009 Ox, 2010 Tiger, 2011 Rabbit issued
• 2012 Dragon in September
• Scheduled to complete in 2019
• Larger diameter coins than Series I or
Kangaroo/Koala/Kookaburra
5. Series I Gold (1996 – 2007)
• 1996 Mouse, 1997 Ox, 1998 Tiger,
1999 Rabbit, 2000 Dragon, 2001 Snake,
2002 Horse, 2003 Goat, 2004 Monkey,
2005 Rooster, 2006 Dog, 2007 Pig
• 1/10oz proof Rooster in “rose gold” .750 (18K) was
issued for jewellery use – seen in the wild on Silver
Stackers!
• Designs differ to the silver animals
• Proof Dog & Pig have different designs again

8. Series I Silver (1999 – 2007)
• 1999 Rabbit, 2000 Dragon, 2001 Snake, 2002 Horse,
2003 Goat, 2004 Monkey, 2005 Rooster, 2006 Dog,
2007 Pig, 2008 Mouse, 2009 Ox, 2010 Tiger
• Mouse, Ox, Tiger also dated 2007 on obverse
• Earlier years have no date on obverse
• 1oz Proofs issued with silver plated pin
• Proof Dog & Pig have different designs
• The “cloud of bats” motifs on Snake, Horse, Goat and
Monkey coins is actually a design error!
• Tiger proof mintages will be released in Oct 2011

12. Series II Gold & Silver (2008 – 2019)
• 2008 Mouse, 2009 Ox, 2010 Tiger, 2011 Rabbit
13. Series II Gold & Silver (2008 – 2019)
• These can be minted until 2019...
• 2008 1oz Mouse minted in 2011 to reach
300,000 limit
• Limits apply to two sizes:
– 1oz silver bullion – 300,000
– 1oz gold bullion – 30,000
• Limits can be circumvented with coloured and
gilded editions
14. Mintages – Gold Bullion Series I
• 78 coins in total
• Full sets minted for 1/20oz, 1/10oz, 1/4oz, 1oz
• Don’t try collecting the entire set!
