RePower offers in-home assessment options to give homeowners more information about the current energy-efficiency level of their homes. RePower Bainbridge offers FREE Home Energy Check-Ups, a 90-minute visual assessment performed by one of our energy advisors. Homeowners receive up to 50 free CFLs and two high-performance showerheads, a prioritized list of energy-saving recommendations, information about incentives and tax credits, and contractor referrals. RePower Kitsap and RePower Bremerton offers FREE PSE HomePrint Assessments, performed by an independent PSE-Qualified Specialist. Homeowners will receive up to 50 free CFLs, a summary of recommendations, information about PSE energy-efficiency product rebates, contractor referrals and other helpful tips. Home Energy Assessments with EPS, or Energy Performance Score, are available to all three RePower offers. This type of assessment must be performed by a Kitsap County EPS assessor. Homeowners receive a report similar to a miles per gallon report, but for a home instead of a car. It details their home’s current energy consumption to what it could be after improvements are made, their carbon footprint and more in-depth information about the home. Find a list of Kitsap County EPS assessors on the RePower Bremerton and RePower Kitsap webpages under the Trade Allies section and click on “For Homeowners.”Unlike the Check-Up and HomePrint, EPS is a paid service which starts at $496 and increases in price based on the square footage of the home. However, Kitsap County offers a limited-time, instant $350 rebate for Home Energy Assessments with EPS.
A Home Energy Assessment with EPS typically lasts three to four hours, depending on the size of the homeParticipants will receive a list of recommended improvements, their estimated carbon footprint and a comparison of current energy costs vs. potential costs after energy-saving improvements are installed. RePower Bremerton and RePower Kitsap participants are required to receive a Home Energy Assessment with EPS to apply for the Energy Efficiency Loan Program from Kitsap Credit Union. Home Energy Assessments with EPS are available only to RePower Bremerton and RePower Kitsap participants.
Proper air sealing and insulation can reduce heating and cooling costs up to 20 percent. Air sealing prevents the air you pay to heat and cool from escaping, and outdoor air from entering your home. Insulation allows your home to remain at constant temperatures and helps your home maintain a comfortable temperature all year long. Air sealing (including gaps and cracks in ductwork) is highly recommended before adding insulation.
