2. What is a shanty town?
• A shanty town is a sustainable development with limited facilities and
services. the overcrowded homes bring disease and infection which is all
the inhabitants need. You can normally find shanty towns on land which
nobody wants for example on a hill side and landfill site.

3. What they are called in different
countries?
• Favelas (Brazil)
• Barrios (Venezuela)
• Ghettos (USA)
• Gars (Mongolia)
• Bastes / Busters (India)
• Kampongs (Indonesia)
• Auguries (Latin America)
• Catchy Abides (Pakistan)
• Intra-moors (Morocco)
• Geri Condo (Turkey)
• Boonville's (Burkina Faso)
• Shantytowns (South Africa)
• Squatter settlements (Global)
4. Services
• Water : Only 20% have access to piped water connections and
only 40% have drinkable water within 200 metres of the
household. Which compared to the uk is not a lot .
• Sewerage: In irregular slums in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia-
Pacific, only 7% of households have connections to sewerage
systems. So what will come from this well they will be sewage on
the streets which will bring disease and even death.
• Housing: most of the house are made out of recyclable products
like plastic and metal which have been found and normally there
is one room for the all the family .

6. Employment
• More than one billion people still subsist on less than $1
a day, with many regions of the world still falling short of
achieving the target. Which is a horrible fact but we just
have to life with it. most of the family will work with job
like shoe shinning long distance lorry driving and other
unwanted jobs.
