3. Teachingtheteachers...
Mlearningreferstotheuseofmobiletechnologyin teachingand
learning.Technologies range from mobile phones to games
consoles,low costlaptopstomediaplayers.90% ofteenagers
ownsomesortofpersonalmediadevice.ThismaybeanMP3
player,mobilephone,tabletetc.Itisatechnologythatyoung
people know and enjoy.Theyuse them forentertainment,to
communicate,tocreateandshare.However,onthewholethese
devicesarebannedinschools.Theaimofmlearnistousemobiledevicesarebannedinschools.Theaimofmlearnistousemobile
technologiestoaidteachingandlearning,embracingratherthan
discouraginghandheldtechnology.Teachersarecrucialchange
makersand,iftrainedtousemobiletechnologyconfidentlyand
effectivelyintheclassroom,cantransform learningandteaching
ineverysubjectarea. Withinourpartnership,wewillsetup
trainingonmlearningwithininitialteachertrainingandintraining
for existing teachers.We willchallenge teachers to thinkfor existing teachers.We willchallenge teachers to think
creativelyaboutmobilelearninganddeveloptheirconfidenceto
trynewideaswithinthewholeschoolcurriculum.

4. MLearnobjectivesareto:
•Integratetheuseofhandheldtechnologiesasarecognisedand
accepted learning toolwithin school education (primary
secondaryandspecialschools)
•Embed the use of handheld technologies within teacher
trainingprogrammes
• Pilot the training programme with teachers in primary
secondaryandspecialschools
•Enableteacherstousetheirnew skillsandcompetencesby•Enableteacherstousetheirnew skillsandcompetencesby
piloting handheld technologies inside and outside of the
classroominaschoolbasedprojectinsubjectsandactivitiesof
theirchoice
•Exploretheaccreditationoftheprogrammeasa Comenius
in-servicetrainingprogramme

5. TheMLearnProgramme:
Atrainingneedsanalysiswillestablishneedandguideproject
development.
•Trainingwillinitiallybeprovidedfor5expertteachers (1from
eachcountry)whohaveknowledgeand experienceofusingICT
intheclassroom.
•Equipmentwillbeprovided foreachpartnercountry,tobe•Equipmentwillbeprovided foreachpartnercountry,tobe
sharedwiththeteachersandschoolsinthepilotproject.
•Theexpertteacherswillrecruitaminimum of10 teachersin
eachcountrytobetrained,from primary,secondaryandspecial
schoolsandinatleast5differentsubjects.
•Followingthecascadingoftraining,allteacherswillproducea
casestudyintheirownlanguageandinEnglish.
•Handheldtechnologieswillbeusedinupto10differentschools•Handheldtechnologieswillbeusedinupto10differentschools
reachinginitiallyatleast150pupilsineachcountry.
•Eachpartnerwill ensurethattheresultsoftheprojectare
sharedintheirowncountrywithatleast100teachers.
•Researchandevaluationwillform avitalpartofthe project,to
ensurethatthepilotiscost-effectiveanddeliversqualityresults.
