9. Global Action Plan for Agricultural Diversification
 Increase the range of crops grown beyond the four major crops - under
climate change conditions
 Encourage intercropping to bring land into production
 Bring a wider range of agricultural landscapes into production
 Develop a sustainable production supply chain - shorter & high value
 Maintain nutritional value
All to be evidence-based

13. Implementation of GAPAD
 At Cop 21 – launch of the, “Paris Declaration”, on the importance of agricultural
diversification in the era of climate change. Calls upon States, intergovernmental
organisations and the non-government sector to take the following actions:
1. develop GAPAD
2. convene an International Conference on Agricultural Diversification under
the auspices of UNFAO
3. agree at CBD COP 13 (Mexico 2016) on a process to formulate a, ‘protocol on
Agricultural Diversification’, to the Convention on Biological Diversity, 1992

 APAARI and members are encouraged to support this document and to participate in
subsequent events

 In March 2016: to develop a
practical programme for
GAPAD and involving all
stakeholders

Fund for Agricultural
Development (IFAD) as
the formal launch of
GAPAD
