Quote from Mark Zucherberg > Facebook revenue$300 & EBITDA is $50 millionThe MySpace estimates of $650 million are from Goldman Sachs research.Other estimates are of $900millionThis could be because the kind of advertising the Fb sells is new. It is yet to gain traction. However, it should be noted that MySpace has been historically good at monetizing its platform. Also, the danger for MySpace is that FB has managed $300 million in very few years of operation.
Facebook now has nearly 100 million more worldwide users than MySpace. The page view difference is more dramatic - Facebook had 80 billion monthly page views in December v. 43 billion for MySpace. Just six months ago the sites were about the same size.(http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/06/12/facebook-no-longer-the-second-largest-social-network/)One factor for the switch could be design. MySpace is very disorderly and Facebook is not. My opinion is that MySpace is stuck in the Web1.0 era when sites with poor design (like geocities and angelfire) ruled the roost. Users now prefer crisper designs.
Even in terms of design, MySpace gives its users complete autonomy to design their own pages. This can result in pages like that one shown here and on slide-11. FB on the other had goes for simplicity and continuous change.
