What is Sarcoidosis?
It is an inflammatory disease
that primarily affects the lungs
and lymph nodes
It can also affect most any
other organ of the body

current consensus of etiology is
exposure to an unidentifiable
environmental agent that triggers

Signs & Symptoms
Most Common Initial
 Shortness of breath
 Dry cough that won’t go
away
 Reddish bumps or patches
on or under the skin
 Fever
 Weight loss
 Fatigue
 Night sweats
 Just ‘not feeling well’
Other disease characteristics
 Read and teary eyes or
blurred vision
 Swollen and painful joints
 Enlarge lymph glands in
the neck, armpits, and groin
 Nasal stuffiness, hoarse
voice
 Pain in hands,feet, or other
bony areas due to cysts
 Kidney stone formation
 Abnormal or missed heart
beats

Who is at Risk?
Sarcoidosis affects people of all ages and races.
 20-40 age group
 Women > Men
 African Americans > Caucasians (In the U.S.)
 Working in occupations that expose you to
environmental toxins
