4. Dia Mundial del Turismo 2008 (Avilès)
ETLC nasce nel 1995 con un accordo fra:
- i tre Sindacati Europei rappresentativi dei lavoratori e
delle lavoratrici del settore turistico: EFFAT (alberghi,
catering e ristorazione) ETF (trasporti: impianti di risalita,
autonoleggi, navi da crociera, voli charter ecc.) UNI
Europa (parchi di divertimento, uffici turistici, guide
turistiche, agenti di viaggio e tour operators);
- i corrispondenti Sindacati al livello mondiale:
- IUF-UITA, ITF, UNI
5. Dia Mundial del Turismo 2008 (Avilès)
In Europa ETLC rappresenta:

nostri figli e nipoti

I flussi turistici aumenteranno
• Se i flussi turistici (e i conseguenti flussi
migratori) aumenteranno come prevede
UNWTO, vanno perseguiti almeno due obiettivi:
– privilegiare la filiera corta anche nel turismo
– possibilità di spostare (anche lontano) sempre
più persone consumando meno energia di
oggi

Consumare meno energia attraverso - 1
• evoluzione tecnologica
– aerei che consumano meno
– costruzioni ecosostenibili (strumento di
diffusione delle buone pratiche)
– recupero e riciclaggio dei rifiuti
28. Dia Mundial del Turismo 2008 (Avilès)
Consumare meno energia attraverso -2
• formazione continua del personale
• coinvolgimento degli stakholders (a partire
dai lavoratori) fin dalla fase di
progettazione
29. Dia Mundial del Turismo 2008 (Avilès)
Consumare meno energia attraverso -3
• visione olistica della sostenibilità
– sia in riferimento ai tre PILASTRI PARALLELI
dello sviluppo sostenibile: ambientale,
economico, sociale

Length and quality of tourism seasons - (e.g., 3S and ski tourism)
Operating costs - (e.g., heating-cooling, insurance premiums, snowmaking)
Based on the available scientific literature, we identified five of the most vulnerable destinations to each type of major impact
9% 1st quarter and 4% in the 2nd
0% in April, 7% in May, 6% in June and 5% in July

As an industry we have an outstanding record of improving the environmental performance of our aircraft.
Yet, most projections from governments and others about the environmental performance of our industry envisages a total lack of progress – i.e we will still be operating today’s technology in 20 or 3o years
Today’s A319 emit
21% less CO2 per passenger kilometre than a 1980s MD82
42% less CO2 per passenger kilometre than the Boeing 737-200 first introduced in the late 1960s
Over 60% less CO2 per passenger kilometre than the Hawker Siddeley Trident launched in the late 1950s
These advances have been made by the industry working together – and in many cases being incentivised to do so by the right kind of regulatory regime

This is an exceptionally important subject, where actions must be based upon the scientifically-proven facts, from objective sources
The Stern Review provided a comprehensive overview of the economics of climate change and broke-out the relative sources of Green House Gas emissions.
It showed that:
Power generation accounts for 24% of global GHGs;
Agriculture accounts for 14% - the same number as Industry and the whole of transport
Within the transport sector, aviation is 1.6% of the total – rising to 2.5% under a “business as usual” projection by 2050
Somewhere around 2-3% is a small number, but it is still too high. I’ll explain what we are doing to address this in a moment, but policy makers should be aware it will take more than a reduction in flying to tackle global warming and a single-minded focus on aviation will address 2% of the problem, leaving the remaining 98% untouched
