- This is quite a topic. The question used to be asked: should we get all teachers to use technology? Now the question is, how do we get all teachers to use technology? Using the theme, A Classroom Metamorphosis, I will share the story of how St. Paul Bonduel went from a good school to a model school. This story has been, and continues to be, repeated by a number of other Lutheran schools. I will also share some stories and examples that demonstrate how the MTM Project continues to serve our Lutheran school administrators, technology coordinators, and teachers. I will talk about the importance of articulating a vision for your place, having a comprehensive technology plan, and providing professional development for your faculty and staff. I understand this was a major theme at this year’s ISTE (NECC) Conference. It is also a theme that shows up in just about every book I read these days – I know I should be reading different books ….. Like Steve Jobs (Co founder of Apple and now its Chief Executive Officer) I have to admit that our MTM program is not perfect. Like Steve Jobs I have some things to give away free – this afternoon – an ipad and five 2 gigabyte thumb drives. BUT – I do it gladly ….. I want to share some things that I have seen work over the past 7 years to change how teachers teach and how schools serve their students and families. I will try to provide an example of how this works by sharing some of stories with you. Then I will try to provide some examples of Lutheran educators have done in a couple of our classes. Getting all teachers to use technology – How do you do this? This question is being asked more and more by principals – technology coordinators – AND teachers. - This is the way I felt about St. Paul and the use of technology use in our curriculum. I felt we were not moving quick enough to intercept the puck – the public school was …. Our students always performed well after they graduated from St. Paul. I wanted that to continue.
- Student Learning is the main focus and I wanted my faculty to The How and Why of technology - We explore this issue in the Integrating Technology in the Classroom class. In the mid 1990’s I started feeling a need to do more for our school in the area of technology use. The Bonduel public school was becoming better at using technology – their reputation for doing this was also growing. Our faculty often was invited to participate in their summer Eisenhower technology institute activities – and we did. I felt we needed to do more as many of my faculty knew the “how” of technology, but the why. There needed to be more than keyboarding and Accelerated Math and Accelerate Reading.
- Things are happening so quick today that it can be overwhelming – Kindle, iPod, iPhone, iPad – texting, instant messaging, sophisticated cell phones, Web 2.0 (3.0 is coming soon), Interactive WhiteBoards (SmartBoard, Permethean, …) 1- 1 computing,
