Delicious Homemade Beef Burger Recipe
As summer is right around the corner, it is a great time to start thinking about barbecue recipes and
ideas. You could impress your family and friends with my quick and simple beef burger recipe.
Burgers can actually be a healthy meal when you choose to enjoy them with fresh salads and quality
ingredients. It could not be easier to make your own burgers at home today so I hope that you
choose to give this recipe a go.
You do not need many ingredients to make beef burgers yourself at home and you will be surprised
at just how simple they really are to put together. I love making this recipe for parties and family
gatherings. It is also especially useful to have this quick and simple recipe to hand when a last
minute social gathering or event comes up and you need to cook something tasty and filling for a
large group of people. I hope that you enjoy this recipe and that you try it out yourself at home this
spring and summer.
Ingredients
500g quality minced beef
1 egg
Handful of fresh parsley leaves
Salt and pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder (or 2 fresh garlic cloves) optional
2 tablespoons mustard
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 onion (half to add to the burgers and half to fry up separately)
Step 1
On a medium sized chopping board, dice your fresh parsley up. Add this to a large mixing bowl with
the minced beef, mustard and garlic. Stir the ingredients together to thoroughly combine them and
then add the egg, olive oil and onion and mix again. Add a pinch of salt and some pepper to give the
burgers extra flavor. You can now make up to eight or as few as six burgers with around 500 grams
of minced beef.
Step 2
When I am making the burgers in advance of an event then I like to leave them to chill in the fridge
first before I cook them. This is because the coldness of the fridge will help them to firm up more
and to keep their shape than if they were left out in the open air. Whether you decide to do this step
or not, pour a small amount of olive oil onto your baking tray, grill or large plate as this will help to
stop the burgers from sticking when you place them down.
Next, divide the mixture evenly into either six or eight pieces and roll each section into a ball.
Slightly flatten these and place them onto your plate or grill. Now if you are not putting them in the
fridge to chill for a few hours then you can move straight on to cooking them if you prefer.
Step 3
When cooking the burgers, heat up your barbecue or grill first. I find that placing them on some
lightly oiled foil too will help to stop the oil and fat dripping down in your grill and causing a mess.
Doing this will also mean that you have less cleaning up to do afterwards. I like to use an oil spray
rather than pouring oil from a bottle for this step.
Next you can thoroughly cook the burgers until they turn a nice brown color. If you press your
spatula into them then you can achieve the classic 'grilled look' effect or the darker lines on the
burger. Be sure to turn them over when cooking. Giving them around five minutes to cook on each
side will help to ensure that they are thoroughly heated throughout with no pink remaining inside.
Step 4
Now that your burgers are cooked you can add all lots of tasty embellishments to them. From fried
onions to freshly washed and chilled salad leaves to a slice of cheese in a soft burger bun, there are
lots of options! I like to fry up the other half of the onion that was used earlier in a frying pan with a
little oil until they turn a nice golden color. I create a salad dressing using olive oil, lemon juice and
salt and pepper to taste. Cherry tomatoes on the vine could be lightly cooked in some balsamic
vinegar too under a grill.
You may decide to use traditional burger buns with sesame seeds on them, salsa, ketchup,
mayonnaise and other condiments too. You may wish to use red onion and gherkins in your burger
buns for a flavor change. I enjoy using a red salsa and sometimes add one heaped teaspoon of chili
flakes or chili powder to the burger mixture in step one.
I like to make some sweet potato fries to accompany my burgers and to do this, simple slice your
sweet potato up into wedge shapes. It does not matter if they are uneven in size because this will
add a rustic touch. Space them out on a large baking tray and drizzle them with olive oil. Add some
salt and pepper and some sprigs of fresh rosemary. Bake them in the oven for around forty-five
minutes at Gas Mark 7. Making these tasty chips could not be easier and they are very sweet tasting
too.
Have you ever thought to try making fish burgers, chicken burgers or even vegetarian burgers at
home? There are so many variations out there[1] that it really can be an exciting dish containing
something for everybody. Explore other recipes for burgers online and you can discover that it is not
just a dish for summer but a tasty year around treat.
When burgers are enjoyed as part of a healthy and balanced diet then they are a fantastic source of
protein for your body. I hope that this recipe has given you some ideas for your next barbecue or
party event this summer. It really is very easy and quick to make your own burgers by hand and it is
always nice to know the ingredients that have gone into making it too.
