3. Cause of literacy problems around the world
The crux of the problem lies in the very heart of poverty. Statistics show that there
are a total of 796 million adults who lack minimum literacy skills and 67.4 million
children in the world who are uneducated. (Education is the way out of poverty.
However, due to them being uneducated in the first place, they do not even know
this)
Illiterate people often live in slums and poverty. Due to the fact that they cannot
afford schooling, they are thus trapped in the vicious cycle of poverty - they are
illiterate, uneducated and are unable to get employed, and thus cannot earn a
stable income to support their family, unable to afford basic services (Electricity,
Potable water, Basic Sanitation, etc) - which leads back to our initial problem.
4. My experiences and what I learnt
by LCP Wesford Goh
I learnt a lot when completing this project. I feel truly honoured that I could be a
part of this group project. I gained much knowledge; for example, I learnt that
people around the world who are illiterate and can’t afford materialistic things
which I take for granted. This experience personally moves me and inspires me to
help the people in the poorer parts of the world, to touch them and change their
lives.
5. From this venture I realised the plight of others around the world. Before this
activity, It didn’t occur to me that so many people did not have access to basic
amenities. However through this activity, I finally realised that we should not take
the things around us for granted. Instead, we should think more about others and
try to assist them in every way we can. In the future, I will promise to take
everything I have and use it for the well being of others. I am truly honoured to go
on this venture and learn all these things. I am confident the things I have learnt
will impact me for the rest of my life.

In the process of doing this values venture assignment, I learnt about the
values that we should have such as humility and perseverance. We can
also make a significant difference in other people’s lives by contributing
and donating to the poor people in the world. This will help in the sense
that we will become better people and will be more encouraged to take
part in these kind of activities in the future.
7. My experiences and what I learnt
by LCP Brandon Lee
This project has truly been an eye opener for me; the insight and perception I’ve
gained will be invaluable throughout my journey in life. I’ve been inspired,
motivated and encouraged by the countless social entrepreneurs around me.
Their dogged determination and earnest resolution to readily assist and aid others
has touched me. I have learnt that the world is not as idyllic as we think; even as
we live, others suffer.
