Foundation Stage 2 Newsletter/Homework, Child Initiated Planning (CIP).
Weeks beginning: 14.10.12 & 21.10.12

Dear Parents and carers,

In Foundation Stage 2 we have a system of planning that runs over a four week period. During the first two
weeks the teachers plan together as a whole group. The next two weeks are called Child Initiated Planning
(CIP). Each class has their own CIP, which is created by the children and the teacher together.

For CIP we ask the children what they want to learn. We ask them to think about what has interested them in
the first two weeks and where they want their learning to take them. We then create a plan that meets their
interests and that will extend their learning further. The children have complete ownership over their learning
and they are free to take their learning where they want it to go. We feed the skills we have to teach them
into those interests.

Below is a table that shows you what each class will be doing for CIP. Please use this as a guide for practical and
play-based homework tasks. If you want to see the full CIP plan, please check the cork board outside your
child’s classroom.

If you have any questions about CIP, please email or visit your class teacher. They will be more than happy to
help you.
