What do they have in common?

 • business meeting
 • courtroom presentation
 • military briefing

Power point presentation

• Helps communicate
  our ideas in an oral
  presentation
Some facts

  power point

• Microsoft: 30 million power point are
  given every day
Advantages of using power point

•employ all kinds of visual aids

  •can incorporate text, picture,
   charts, graphs, sound, video
Disadvantages of using power point

•dominates the presentation: mismanagement
               of the speaker

•“the fancier the presentation, the less valuable
         the ideas being presentation”
Disadvantages of using power point

•handles the responsibility to produce a good
              speech magically

•responsible for illustrating all the points in the
                        talk
Planning to Use the
           Power Point

• why? how? when?

• should enhance in presenting your
  ideas
Formatting Power
   Point Slides
•Color •Images
•Text •Space
•Font •Animation
Color
• stick to limited number of colors

• background : unifies the ideas

• foreground, background
Text
• keywords, phrases, few sentences,
  images, visual information

• 6x6 rule
Effective Listeners
• Overlook stylistic differences and focus on
  the speaker’s message

• Make distinctions between main points and
  supporting details

• Look for opportunities to learn
Commentary3
• In order to investigate the hypothesis that 8-year old boys are more aggressive

than 8-year old girls, 8-year old children were observed playing in schoolyards and

incidents of certain aggressive behaviors were recorded. 2)It was assumed that

aggressive behavior consisted of the following: i) pushing, ii) kicking and hitting, iii)

cursing, and iv) chasing. 3)As can be seen from the table above, the average 8-

year old boy was more aggressive than the 8-year old girls. 4)Chasing was the one

behavior that was more pronounced for the girls. 5)This result, however, does not

disprove the theory since chasing seems to be a less aggressive behavior than the

other behaviors that were tested. 6The 8-year old boys got more involved with

the more aggressive behavior, which is kicking/hitting, much more than the 8-

   year old girls.

This is the thing that annoys more people about
PowerPoint presentations than anything else.

It is boring!
Keep something back!
1. Keep the points simple
• If it is a book or report look for the contents page. Identify
any chapters that you think maybe of particular relevance and
focus on them. Again start from the introduction or the
conclusions. You can find your way through a chapter or
   section by using the subheadings.

• Use the contents page

• Use subheadings
Let us Review!
