Grapes are small round or oval berries that feature semi-translucent flesh encased by a smooth skin. Grapes can be eaten raw, or they can be used for making jam, juice, jelly, raisins, wine, grape seed extracts, molasses, vinegar, and grape seed oil. Although some varieties of grapes contain edible seeds, others are seedless. The question, now, is this: How is growing grapes from seed done?

Well, you must know that growing grapes from seeds is not the
ideal way of reproducing a grape vine. This is because the
genetics of a variety is not completely carried over by the seeds,
which means to say that if, for instance, you plant a Concord
seed and the seed germinates successfully, the new grape vine
may not have all the true characteristics of a Concord grape.
Apart from that, the problem with growing grapes from seeds is
that a very low percentage of the seeds will germinate. The grape
seed is covered with a very tough seed coat that keeps the seed
dormant until ideal conditions for germination arise. In fact, the
grape seeds have to undergo a process called stratification in
order to obtain a higher germination percentage. Stratification, in
simple terms, is cold treatment. After extracting the seeds from
the berries, you need to put the seeds in peat moss or damp
paper towel, inside a refrigerator for at least two to three months.
After stratification, remove the seeds from the refrigerator and
allow them to warm inside your home. Plant them in seed pots
and ensure that the temperature is about twenty degrees Celsius
during daytime. Seeds should not be placed outdoors in direct
sunlight, as too much heat and light will cause the seeds to die.
Some of the seeds may germinate in a few weeks. Once the
seedling is about one to two inches high, plant it out in a bigger
pot, making sure that the soil is moist but not too wet. It is
2. advisable to grow the seedlings in the pots for a full year, before
planting them out.
And this is how growing grapes from seed is done.
