3. Ed Sheeran – Small Bump
I was strongly considering this song as it is an acoustic song with a strong beat in the background
which would be very effective when I edit cuts in. It builds so much and would be great for
building a narrative. The lyrics are very meaningful, each line I could create a scene for. It allows
a lot of room to build a narrative and story line. If I did use this song for my music video, I would
have to make sure that I stay well away from creating something similar to the original video for
it, I would need to come up with my own concept.
4. Sam Smith – Latch (Acoustic)
This is a song I was thinking of choosing too. If I was to pick it, I would use the acoustic version
rather than the normal version. This is because the original is way too up beat for the video I
would like to create. The acoustic is a really slowed down and chilled out version and that is the
type of song I would be able to work with. I would create a narrative concept as the lyrics almost
scream out at me to do that.
5. James Bay - Scars
This is the song I have chosen to do for my music video. I initially chose this song because I
thought I could come up with a really good performance aspect that I could maybe as well link in
with a narrative concept to create a music video around. The genre of the song is indie/folk and
the singer himself has a quite distinct voice so I would be able to work with that regarding
building a character for him in the video, also, as the song builds, more and more aspects
become involved eg. instruments, I would be able to work with that in regards to the amount of
cuts I edit in etc. The singers voice also gets more stronger and involved with the song more
which is another thing I can take advantage of.
6. George Ezra – Budapest
This was another song that I was considering. It a fairly upbeat indie/folk song and it has fairly
random lyrics which I thought could work to create a slightly more unusual video. However, the
song already has a video that I think reflects the song perfectly due to it being so different, so
making an original video may be quite hard because I would be tempted to take ideas from the
video, and then it would not be my own.
8. A Suit (smart)
This is a great way in order to show multiple personalities. The suit would be used as a more
‘cleaned up’ version of the actor, it could show the actor having a fresh start for himself. A suit is
regarded as a really high stated outfit and shows authority as well as making the actor look great
and very dapper, having this outfit would draw the audience in.
9. Casual/Smart
This is the choice of clothing that the male in the video will probably wear. I think this will work
because it is simple yet effective, and I don’t want his attire to be too ‘out there’ and take away
from the scenes in the video, I also want him to look quite normal and I think I can achieve this
with a simple outfit, and a jacket for the outdoors shots. Maybe a flat cap for the outdoor shots
as well.
10. Casual
This is a good type of outfit to use if the song chosen is a really chilled out one, one that the
actor in the video just lays on the sofa too to create a lazy impression. Some artists even just
wear their own clothes so that it just shows themselves, their own personalities, this is also a
great technique to use in order to create distinct characters.
11. Hat, Glasses, Gloves
These are accessories I could use to give my actor more of a look that will make him look more
maybe sophisticated with the glasses and a certain personality regarding the hat. Clothing
accessories are very important if I want my actor to look a certain way, very effective.
13. Full colour
This technique is using just the actual colour that is actually seen in real life, of course this is the
most common one as it creates an authentic and original look. A video with no effects and kept
in its filming colour in most cases is regarded as boring, it doesn’t appeal to many people,
meaning I wont be using this technique the whole way through the video.
14. Black & white
This is a very effective technique. Black and white can be used to show flashbacks or maybe just
to make a video look a lot more interesting to watch. Its an effect used to give a video originality
and to make it remembered to the viewers as it wouldn’t look like every other music video. I
may use this in my video to make it exciting to look at.
15. Filters
Filters are used to make footage a lot more distinct. Maybe more sharp, more bright, a
smoother texture, and many more. Its used to make the footage ‘a lift’ and make it more
appealing to the audience, I will be using filters in my music video to create extra effect.
17. The Black Box
The black box is a great location to use in order to create a solid base for a music video. With the
use of certain lights, you can create great footage of the artist performing his/her song, for
example using just a light behind the artist creates a warm silhouette that can be used to show
emotion and can also be used as filler shots.
18. London, at night
This is a great location to use as a whole as you can do so much stuff with it, there are so many
different ideas that can be put in motion in London at night. The crowds would make the video a
lot more interesting to watch as the actor would be actin gas if they are not there not in reality
he is surrounded. This would make the actor have the look of a lonely person which adds to the
emotion. This is one of many things I could do.
19. London, in the day
Up in London during the daytime is a location I would use for the start of my video. Certain
London streets during the day are quite calm and relaxed as well as looking great because of the
big houses/buildings. This would be where I would start my video if I was to use it. I could give
the video a really effective filter while showing London in the day time, this would add to
attracting my audience.
