Recent Efforts
• Tysons Snow Summit, January 23, 2015
– Chairman Bulova organized a meeting of County, VDOT,
representatives from Tysons Partnership and other
property owners.
– Graphics indicating snow removal on sidewalks prepared
– VDOT indicated that they do not have resources to clear
snow on sidewalks.
– County staff noted that any solution must work in major
activity centers throughout the county – not just Tysons.

Snow Removal Maps
• Identified areas cleared by County, WMATA, adjacent
property owners.
• Field observation on February 20, 2015. Information
added to the maps.
• Most parking lots are cleared. In some cases the
parking lots can provide for pedestrian access to
buildings.

Current Activities
• Key Landowner concern was liability associated with
clearing snow on sidewalks in the VDOT right-of way.
– County Staff beginning to discuss potential “Good
Samaritan” legislation to address liability concerns.
Will be brought to Board Legislative Committee in the
Fall.
– Staff is also investigating other suggestions for
addressing liability issues.
