EDUCATION:
Eugen ZAHARESCU (Ph.D. in Electronics and Telecommunications), graduated the Faculty of
Electronics and Telecommunications (and Information Technology), Polytechnic University of
Bucharest in 1981. Here, he prepared and presented in 2003 his Ph.D. thesis: “Extending
Mathematical Morphology for Color Images and for Logarithmic Representation of Images”. He
also graduated the Mathematics & Informatics Faculty–Bucharest University and he received
“Diplôme Internationale de Management”- Université des Sciences Sociales - Toulouse, France
(1995). For seven years he followed the LAPI’s courses of the ETASM-Multi-Dimensional Signal
Processing and Analysis School - Polytechnic University of Bucharest. He has also a solid
background education in high-level programming languages, operating systems and networking, web
technologies and data base.

EMPLOYMENT:
Currently, Eugen ZAHARESCU is Associate Professor PhD. at the “Ovidius” University of
Constanţa, Mathematics and Informatics Department (since 1992). He is teaching courses in
image processing, multimedia systems, operating systems, procedural and object oriented
languages, structured data and data bases, Web technologies, electronic commerce and business
using multimedia technology for E-Learning.
Also, as a visiting professor at Bilkent University of Ankara, Turkey, he teached and supervised the
“Microprocessors” class for Electronic Engineering Faculty during Spring semester and Summer
School 2006.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY:
Eugen ZAHARESCU’s general research interests include: image processing and pattern
recognition, data base theory and applications, Web technologies, distributed systems and
multimedia environments for E-Learning. A special interest is dedicated to the principles and
fundamentals of mathematical morphology used in image analysis.
During year 2006 he successfully developed research activities as a Postdoctoral Fellow for
“Creation of a Large-Scale Image Ontology”- sponsored by European Research Consortium for
Mathematics and Informatics, European Commission FP6 Network of Excellence, MUSCLE-
(Multimedia Understanding Through Semantics, Computation and Learning), at Comisariat a
