 Student netiquette are the policies and
practices that make online experiences on
discussion boards and in chat rooms more
user friendly and allows for an environment
that is different from the traditional
classroom but still holds the same
expectations as one.
 As you communicate online, remember,
you are preparing yourself to be a career
professional. Being professional at all
times, is essential.
 Be considerate by not spamming the emails
of your instructors and fellow classmates.
 Being respectful of your peers will give you
better results. Everyone has their own
opinion and is entitled to it.
 Being frustrated or upset prompts us to
make foul remarks towards others. These
type of remarks will not help in getting
your point across. Take a moment to re-
direct what you are going to say in a calm
and professional manner so that problems
do not persist.
 Humor and sarcasm are hard to identify via
text communications. Try to refrain from
using humor and any remarks that could be
deemed as sarcastic.
 Harassment and other offensive behavior.
The online learning environment is no place
to harass, threaten, or embarrass others.
Comments that can be viewed, as offensive,
sexist, or racially motivated will not be
tolerated. It is never appropriate to put
anyone down because of his or her age, race,
religion, color, sex, or sexual preference.
 Offensive material. Students should never
post, transmit, promote, or distribute
content that is racially, religiously, or
ethnically offensive or is harmful, abusive,
vulgar, sexually explicit, otherwise
potentially offensive.
 Give credit where credit is due. Give
copyrighted material it’s credit to the
original author. Do not try to pass off
someone else’s work as your own or any
content that violates copyrighted material.
 When typing or texting in all capital
leaders or bold headings it is considered to
be yelling. Yelling isn’t tolerated in a
traditional classroom so it shouldn’t be
tolerated in online communications as well.
