If you don’t, send Ms. Schindler a message to fill
her in on your new topic.
3. T HEN WHAT ?
Next, find 2-3 articles on your topic and pick the
best article. Make sure to include the link to the
article when you turn in the assignment – it’s
worth 10 points.
Then, read the article! Pick 3 facts, 3 opinions
and figure out the way the facts and opinions are
“framed.”
Fill out the pdf form and submit the assignment
as an attachement.
4. F REQUENTLY A SKED
Q UESTIONS
What if I can’t download the pdf file?
If you are having trouble with the pdf file, click on
the “Course Resources” button and under the
“Differing Opinions” assignment you will find the
chart in .rtf format.
I have no idea what “framing” means. Help!
For this assignment, “framing” means how they
present it. Do they appeal to your emotions, your
logic? Does it use a statistic? Does it scare you?
What is the purpose of this fact?
5. FACT VS . O PINION
A fact is something that is provable and concrete.
For example, the sky is blue is a fact. You can
look up and see that the sky is indeed blue.
A fact doesn’t have an opinion attached to it. “I
think pizza is the most delicious meal” is not a
fact. It is an opinion!
Opinions cannot be proven conclusively.
Make sure your facts are facts!
