This guide will introduce you to the icons and buttons you will see around the
Evolve Course Editor screen, and explain what they are all used for. The guide
has been split into the six areas of the screen which are explained on page 3, so
you can quickly locate the icon you want to know more about.

Editor
Familiarise yourself with the different areas of the editor
The Evolve Course Editor
There are six areas in the Course Editor, numbered and detailed below.

1. Top Menu Bar
Icons
What the various icons and buttons are used for
Icon Action
Dashboard
Returns you to the main Evolve Dashboard.
Course status
Displays the current status of your course. You can change this
manually by clicking on this label.
Changes saved
The icon shows that any recent changes have been successfully
saved, and will change briefly when changes are syncing.
Last Edit
See when there was last activity on this course. Click on this to
display a list of past edits made by all users who have made changes.
Editors
See who is currently editing this version of the course. What they are
editing will be highlighted in the Course and Page Builders.
Help
The menu contains links to support and your existing tickets, the
Evolve Community and Hub.
Publish
Go to the Publish screen to select your option for publishing your
course for Exceed, SCORM or Offline.
Comments
Comment on and view comments made on this course by others
during reviews, and turn on comments in Live Preview.
Search
Find items within your course using a keyword search.
Live Preview
Opens your course into a new browser tab for you to view the course
which updates as you make changes in the builder.

2. Editor Toolbar
Icons
What the various icons and buttons are used for
Icon Action
Contents
Displays the Course Outline section containing your course’s Topics,
Pages and content.
Extensions
Opens the Extensions screen where you can turn on and personalise
the available Extensions within Evolve.
Logic
Create Logic triggers, variables and dialogs to give your course
intelligent behaviour and responses.
Theme
Choose and amend your course’s theme - colours, layout and more.
Settings
Go here to control how certain aspects of the course function, such
as menu style and navigation.
Versions
Create and manage multiple Language versions or Course versions for
iterations and backup purposes.
Reviews
Create and manage built-in Reviews of your content with official
registered Reviewers.
More Actions
Other things to do with Courses such as duplicate, delete, share
preview or copy course ID, export JSON, create templates and manage
authors/editors

3. Course Outline
Icons
What the various icons and buttons are used for
Icon Action
Hide Course Outline
Shrinks the Course Outline panel so that you can have more screen
space for the other panels. Click again to restore.
Add a Page
Adds a new Page to the end of your Course Outline, which can then be
dragged to any position.
Add a Topic
Adds a new Topic to the end of your Course Outline, which can then be
dragged to any position.
Add a Component/Paste content
Opens the Component picker, or choose Paste to locate content from
this or any course in your Evolve instance, and create a copy of it
within your Course Outline, ready for editing.
Disabled item
In the Course Outline if an item is struck through, then this means
that item is set to Disabled.
Hidden item
If a Course Outline item displays the eye icon indicates it is in Hidden
state.
View Actions
Each item in the Outline has a context menu which allows you to move,
duplicate, view and delete the item

4. Page Builder - Toolbar
Icons
What the various icons and buttons are used for
Icon Action
View in Live Preview
Locates the selected item (Page, Article, Block or Component) instantly
within an open Live Preview window so you can see how it appears.
Move item
Allows you to move any selected Page, Article or Block up the order in
the Page Builder.
Move item down
Allows you to move any selected Page, Article or Block down the order
in the Page Builder.
Move item to
Allows you to select an exact location to move the selected Page,
Article or Block to within the Course.
Duplicate item
Creates an exact copy of the selected Page, Article or Block directly
below itself.
Delete item
Remove the selected item from the Course permanently. Deleted items
cannot be recovered once deleted.

Icons
What the various icons and buttons are used for
Icon Action
Disable Item
Disabling an item keeps it as part of your course but it will not appear
in Live Preview or in the published course.
Hide/Show item
Hiding an item makes it invisible (but still present) in your course. The
item can then be revealed during the course using Logic.
Component Layout
For two Components side-by-side, allows you to choose between half
and half, two-thirds left or two-thirds right
Component Alignment
Only available with 2 side-by-side Components, Choose to align the
shortest Component at the top, middle or bottom edge of the other..
Article Style selector
Lets you select the Article Style from your Theme that you want to
apply to this Article.
Trigger Usage
Indicates this item has Triggers connected to it. Click to view them.
Icon Action
Property Menus
Access the other sections of properties for this element.
Quick Scroll
Use these arrow buttons to quickly scroll through the different
properties sections for this element.
Expand Property Panel
Makes the Property Panel expand to also cover the space taken by the
Page Builder, so you can have more room to work in this area.
Help Tooltip
Hover over these little question mark symbols beside any field in the
panel to find out more about them.
Toggles
Turn on and off features and settings in the panel by switching these
toggles to suit your needs.
