3. Introduction
It is a short novel written by George Orwell during the
Russian Revolution.
It is a political satire and allegory on the Revolution.
Theme of corruption of leadership and power prevails in the
story.
4. Revolt of Animals Against Mr. Jones
Manor Farm under Mr. Jones, a human, represents Russia. Mr.
Jones exploits animals and butchers them brutally when they become
useless.
A pig, Old Major encourages other animals to revolt against Mr.
Jones. But soon he dies. However two pigs, Snowball and
Napoleon revolt against Mr Jones and over throw him. Manor Farm
is renamed as Animal Farm.
Thus foundation of Animalism is laid that is based on 7
Commandments (e.g. all animals are equal).
5. Failure of Animalism
Through the ideology of Animalism, Animals try to bring
prosperity. However struggle for power begins between
Napolean and Snowball and the later is thrown-out.
Napolean then promises prosperity to the animals. However he
becomes brutal and condition of animals gets worst as it was
under humans. For every failure, he accuses Snowball.
There remains no difference in the rules of animals and humans.
