1. Initial Ideas When beginning our project we mind mapped many ideas and genres that we thought may be effective and that we would be able to incorporate into our teaser trailer. These are what we came up with:
2. Genre The first aspect we thought about was which genre we wanted our trailer to fall into. These are the ones which we considered and the ones we thought we could effectively make a trailer for:
8. Horror After using the horror genre to base our last project on, we felt that keeping away from it this time would ensure that we did not repeat any mistakes or ideas that we had used last time. Instead we wanted to use new ideas and possibly a different genre that we had not looked at before.
9. We also felt that we wanted to avoid a comedy trailer as we felt that it was too risky to try to effectively convey the genre in the limited time available for a teaser trailer. In order to try to convey the genre effectively to the audience in less than a minute and a half we would have possibly had to use obvious humour which may have been either just not funny or look forced. 10. Other Aspects: We also thought about factors such as where we would set our trailer and the type of characters we would include in it.
11. Setting and Characters Unlike deciding on the genre of our film, we quickly decided where we would set our trailer- in a school. There was many reasons why we decided on this setting, firstly, as shown by the films posters on the left, it is a setting that can fit a variety of different genres. All of these films are from a range of different genres but are all set in schools. We also decided on this setting for the convenience of filming as we would have frequent access to it and would not need to worry about our actors not knowing where to come for filming. With the school as the setting this meant that the majority of characters would be young school pupils.
12. Initial thoughts and ideas… When thinking about and discussing these we jotted all aspects down on a big sheet of paper to create a mind map where any ideas at all could be written:
