You will submit this document at the end of the term

Directions:
Each Emotional Intelligence Journal corresponds with a chapter in your book. There are
12 chapters and you will complete 12 Journal entries. Go to each page to answer the
questions for each Journal in this document. For example, under Emotional Intelligence
Journal 1 (page 24 in your book), read each question in your book and place your answers
in this document. (DO NOT complete “Real-Life Writing”)

Chapter 1- (page 26) Emotional Intelligence Journal - How you are feeling now

Right now I feel good about college at first I was a bit scared and today I still am and that reason is
because I am getting piles of work and I feel that I cannot handle it at all. But I have been pushing
through and I try to knock them all down so that I may have a free weekend to myself.

As for tips I have learned to stay productive over summer. This way you will be mentally prepared
and I won't lag behind when dealing with the fast-paced college workload. And Sign up for a free
email subscriptions to get the latest college news, tips and advice in my inbox. And Get as many
scholarships as you can get to help pay for college.

And College is very expensive as well I need all the help I can get. So Check out college scholarships
and see what you qualify for. And Visit the college in person with friends and/or family before
starting school, and even before applying for that matter. And Follow college admission tips to
ensure you will get in the college of your choice.as well as contacting your roommates ahead of
time. Make an effort to get to know them before going off to college. And maybe start networking
with other students on Facebook or other social media formats.
Chapter 2 - (page 58) Emotional Intelligence Journal – How you feel about your time management

Personally I believe time management has worked well for me but one of the things I have learned to
peaceful productivity is not to try and accomplish everything. Instead, it's all about feeling at peace even
when you have a huge number of things to do. This doesn't mean just relaxing and going down to the
beach. It means focusing on the highest priority items on your list and not feeling stressed to get
everything else done.

And often you can find yourself more productive when you are working in this manner because you are
not all over the place doing several things at once. Instead, you are highly focused on the important
stuff, so your productivity increases, while at the same time your stress levels decrease. Let's say you
have 250 things on your to-do list. You can't do everything, so you prioritize because you will be stressed
out and I have been there myself. But what you want to do is start focusing on your priorities. But what
do you do with all the other stuff? One option I think is not to worry about it at all--completely ignore it
until you have completed your priority items like the most important first to last.
Chapter 3 – (page 87) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Your interactions with others

I think I relate to people by getting to know them but It's amazing how much we can do these days
beyond the sphere of Planet Earth-far out in space-yet how little we are doing right here on our own
hometown planet, especially when it concerns relating well to people. For me though people have rarely
gotten along with others. And although there are millions of people who don't understand others and
can't get along, there are millions who can and do. Their lives are happy and radiant. They have learned
how to relate to people. And because they do, their lives are richer. Not only do they make others happy;
they make themselves happy too.

But in all fairness a happy, well-adjusted person can get along with people much more easily than if he
feels badly about himself. If you are going to click well with people, start by taking inventory of your own
personality traits and inquire about your own attitudes.

And this is just me blabbing but Even Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, asked God to give him
above everything else, "an understanding heart," and perhaps that was one of the greatest proofs of his
wisdom!
Chapter 4 - (page 120) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Make a wiser choice

Chapter 4 - (page 120) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Make a wiser choice

There are many situations in my life that I had personally wished I had handled differently but I think one
I can remember was when I was rude to my best friend and I think I would write out my sorry like this.

Dear Kristina

Please allow me to apologize for what I said on Monday. My behavior was extremely inappropriate,
immature, and lacked the respect you deserved. It was a disruption and distracted you from doing your
job

It was embarrassing, but I learned that nobody appreciated my poor behavior. In the future, I have every
intention of curbing my thoughtless actions and learn to adjust my behavior befitting the environment
and situation.

Again, I am sorry for my actions and I hope that we can put this matter behind us. I look forward to
talking to you soon. If you have any thoughts in this, please feel free to share. You may contact me at
your convenience at my number which I hope you still have.
Chapter 5 - (page 156) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Reading challenges

When reading a tough and difficult type of material it can be very stressful on a person. And I have very
mixed feelings personally when I read most of the time back in the day I never used to put an effort into
what I read but that was because I was very lazy and I never used the tips that are given in this great
textbook. But usually I feel very bored when I read I used to skim through the pages and answer the
question that was my tactic back then.

But since reading this chapter specifically I have learned my new tricks to reading properly and knowing
what I have read for example Setting goals now for this one you don’t have to set it to a high level but
something you are for sure you know you are able to achieve. As well as reviewing study questions this is
key because when you need that grade your knowledge determines whether you succeed or not.
Chapter 6 - (page 184) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Understanding your needs and making changes

Now I am going to have fun with this one. Yes I had a teacher who gave me a hard time in class as well
as not helping me take notes he had no pace and the reason why I say this is because he never taught
our class at all. He just gave us assignments and expected us to ace them not to mention his class was a
hot mess it was terrible it was poorly messy he was if I must say the absolute worst teacher I ever had
and frankly I hope he gets fired. Also any child who deals with that in their school career is bound to
switch out.

For taking notes students can use tables, timelines, and shorthand and I think I love that one the most
and the reason for that is because I like using personal intelligence as a strategy it helps young people
like myself to become more equipped with good writing habits in the future but always remember to
remove shorthand before you hand in your work.
Chapter 7- (page 218) Emotional Intelligence Journal – How feelings connect study success

One thing I always do to recall things before I test is use flash cards or study using chuncking

Because it is easier to memorize information when you break it up into small chunks. This is called
chunking. You may not realize it, but you use chunking often, like let’s say when you memorize your
friend's telephone number, a locker combination, or your social security number. It's easier for you to
remember long numbers when you "chunk" them into groups of threes, fours and fives.

Another strategy I use is understanding- So Before you begin trying to memorize something, try to
understand it. A good way to do this is by making a connection between what you are learning and what
you have experienced. The better you can relate the new information to what you already know, the
easier it is to learn.
Chapter 8- (page 252) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Test types

I firstly have to say I think I love multiple choice I have to say it kind of calms my nerves a bit and helps
me get the grade I want in the end and though it may seem simple as well as easy it really is not it makes
you think back and puts you in the right mindset and to me it is really helpful for the average student.

Being able to put yourself in a different mindset is such tremendous help when you are trying to pass a
test and get better scores. It’s really pretty simple to do, but you have to allow yourself to relax and
allow your mind to look at stuff a bit differently, changing how you view certain things. It really does
bring successful results. And for you that is what you want so you are able to do better in school and be
at the top of the class.
Chapter 9 - (page 281) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Your experience with prejudice

Yes I have many times as a child. I was discriminated against due to the fact that I was black I can
remember as far back as elementary school this kid named vlad would mock me and call me an odd
name from his language I never understood it and me and him were enemy’s from day one of third
grade I wish I could have a sit down with him and resolve our issues.

The only way I could see something come positive out of this is trying to talk the problem out as adults or
simply walk away and avoid the other individual the best way you can for example ignoring them or if it
gets to that point get the police involved because safety is key.
Chapter 10 - (page 312) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Addiction

What is Addiction? Addiction means a person has no control over whether he or she uses a drug or
drinks. Someone who's addicted to cocaine has grown so used to the drug that he or she has to have it.
Addiction can be physical, psychological, or both.

Personally and I thank god I have never gone through addiction well maybe not a drug or drinking but
regular stuff like candy to be serious a way to handle addiction there are many you can do the
following…

-Tell your friends about your decision to stop using drugs. Your true friends will respect your decision.
This might mean that you need to find a new group of friends who will be 100% supportive. Unless
everyone decides to kick their drug habit at once, you probably won't be able to hang out with the
friends you did drugs with.

-Ask your friends or family to be available when you need them. You might need to call someone in the
middle of the night just to talk. If you're going through a tough time, don't try to handle things on your
own — accept the help your family and friends offer.
Chapter 11 - (page 342) Emotional Intelligence Journal – You and credit

Well as of now I don’t pay bills it came with my credit card college account which saves me from credit
bills for about four years so I am good on that but if I had to I would pay them on time it is our
responsibility as adults to do our job and pay on time so we can have what we paid for and live well.

As for saving money I could suggest the following

-Set savings goals. For short-term goals, this is easy. If you want to buy a video game, find out how much
it costs; if you want to buy a house, determine how much of a down payment you’ll need. For long-term
goals, such as retirement, you’ll need to do a lot more planning (figuring out how much money you’ll
need to live comfortably for 20 or 30 years after you stop working), and you’ll also need to figure out
how investments will help you achieve your goals.

And figure out how much you’ll have to save per week, per month, or per paycheck to attain each of
your savings goals.
Chapter 12 - (page 369) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Revisit your personal mission

I think three career priorities I matched up with were Intellectual which is solving complex questions
requiring thought, applying concepts, and knowledge to problems. Variety which is being engaged in
many different activities or problems. Creative this is initiating new idea or product. And to be honest
they have not changed at all.

But in the end I am confident for where I am going in the future and I can’t wait for what lies ahead for
me. But another priority I could possibly incorporate is security which means knowing the job will last.
And I will have that job for a very long time.

  • 1. Keys to Success Emotional Intelligence Journal Assignments By Brandon miller You will submit this document at the end of the term Directions: Each Emotional Intelligence Journal corresponds with a chapter in your book. There are 12 chapters and you will complete 12 Journal entries. Go to each page to answer the questions for each Journal in this document. For example, under Emotional Intelligence Journal 1 (page 24 in your book), read each question in your book and place your answers in this document. (DO NOT complete “Real-Life Writing”) Chapter 1- (page 26) Emotional Intelligence Journal - How you are feeling now Right now I feel good about college at first I was a bit scared and today I still am and that reason is because I am getting piles of work and I feel that I cannot handle it at all. But I have been pushing through and I try to knock them all down so that I may have a free weekend to myself. As for tips I have learned to stay productive over summer. This way you will be mentally prepared and I won't lag behind when dealing with the fast-paced college workload. And Sign up for a free email subscriptions to get the latest college news, tips and advice in my inbox. And Get as many scholarships as you can get to help pay for college. And College is very expensive as well I need all the help I can get. So Check out college scholarships and see what you qualify for. And Visit the college in person with friends and/or family before starting school, and even before applying for that matter. And Follow college admission tips to ensure you will get in the college of your choice.as well as contacting your roommates ahead of time. Make an effort to get to know them before going off to college. And maybe start networking with other students on Facebook or other social media formats.
  • 2. Chapter 2 - (page 58) Emotional Intelligence Journal – How you feel about your time management Personally I believe time management has worked well for me but one of the things I have learned to peaceful productivity is not to try and accomplish everything. Instead, it's all about feeling at peace even when you have a huge number of things to do. This doesn't mean just relaxing and going down to the beach. It means focusing on the highest priority items on your list and not feeling stressed to get everything else done. And often you can find yourself more productive when you are working in this manner because you are not all over the place doing several things at once. Instead, you are highly focused on the important stuff, so your productivity increases, while at the same time your stress levels decrease. Let's say you have 250 things on your to-do list. You can't do everything, so you prioritize because you will be stressed out and I have been there myself. But what you want to do is start focusing on your priorities. But what do you do with all the other stuff? One option I think is not to worry about it at all--completely ignore it until you have completed your priority items like the most important first to last.
  • 3. Chapter 3 – (page 87) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Your interactions with others I think I relate to people by getting to know them but It's amazing how much we can do these days beyond the sphere of Planet Earth-far out in space-yet how little we are doing right here on our own hometown planet, especially when it concerns relating well to people. For me though people have rarely gotten along with others. And although there are millions of people who don't understand others and can't get along, there are millions who can and do. Their lives are happy and radiant. They have learned how to relate to people. And because they do, their lives are richer. Not only do they make others happy; they make themselves happy too. But in all fairness a happy, well-adjusted person can get along with people much more easily than if he feels badly about himself. If you are going to click well with people, start by taking inventory of your own personality traits and inquire about your own attitudes. And this is just me blabbing but Even Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, asked God to give him above everything else, "an understanding heart," and perhaps that was one of the greatest proofs of his wisdom!
  • 4. Chapter 4 - (page 120) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Make a wiser choice Chapter 4 - (page 120) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Make a wiser choice There are many situations in my life that I had personally wished I had handled differently but I think one I can remember was when I was rude to my best friend and I think I would write out my sorry like this. Dear Kristina Please allow me to apologize for what I said on Monday. My behavior was extremely inappropriate, immature, and lacked the respect you deserved. It was a disruption and distracted you from doing your job It was embarrassing, but I learned that nobody appreciated my poor behavior. In the future, I have every intention of curbing my thoughtless actions and learn to adjust my behavior befitting the environment and situation. Again, I am sorry for my actions and I hope that we can put this matter behind us. I look forward to talking to you soon. If you have any thoughts in this, please feel free to share. You may contact me at your convenience at my number which I hope you still have.
  • 5. Chapter 5 - (page 156) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Reading challenges When reading a tough and difficult type of material it can be very stressful on a person. And I have very mixed feelings personally when I read most of the time back in the day I never used to put an effort into what I read but that was because I was very lazy and I never used the tips that are given in this great textbook. But usually I feel very bored when I read I used to skim through the pages and answer the question that was my tactic back then. But since reading this chapter specifically I have learned my new tricks to reading properly and knowing what I have read for example Setting goals now for this one you don’t have to set it to a high level but something you are for sure you know you are able to achieve. As well as reviewing study questions this is key because when you need that grade your knowledge determines whether you succeed or not.
  • 6. Chapter 6 - (page 184) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Understanding your needs and making changes Now I am going to have fun with this one. Yes I had a teacher who gave me a hard time in class as well as not helping me take notes he had no pace and the reason why I say this is because he never taught our class at all. He just gave us assignments and expected us to ace them not to mention his class was a hot mess it was terrible it was poorly messy he was if I must say the absolute worst teacher I ever had and frankly I hope he gets fired. Also any child who deals with that in their school career is bound to switch out. For taking notes students can use tables, timelines, and shorthand and I think I love that one the most and the reason for that is because I like using personal intelligence as a strategy it helps young people like myself to become more equipped with good writing habits in the future but always remember to remove shorthand before you hand in your work.
  • 7. Chapter 7- (page 218) Emotional Intelligence Journal – How feelings connect study success One thing I always do to recall things before I test is use flash cards or study using chuncking Because it is easier to memorize information when you break it up into small chunks. This is called chunking. You may not realize it, but you use chunking often, like let’s say when you memorize your friend's telephone number, a locker combination, or your social security number. It's easier for you to remember long numbers when you "chunk" them into groups of threes, fours and fives. Another strategy I use is understanding- So Before you begin trying to memorize something, try to understand it. A good way to do this is by making a connection between what you are learning and what you have experienced. The better you can relate the new information to what you already know, the easier it is to learn.
  • 8. Chapter 8- (page 252) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Test types I firstly have to say I think I love multiple choice I have to say it kind of calms my nerves a bit and helps me get the grade I want in the end and though it may seem simple as well as easy it really is not it makes you think back and puts you in the right mindset and to me it is really helpful for the average student. Being able to put yourself in a different mindset is such tremendous help when you are trying to pass a test and get better scores. It’s really pretty simple to do, but you have to allow yourself to relax and allow your mind to look at stuff a bit differently, changing how you view certain things. It really does bring successful results. And for you that is what you want so you are able to do better in school and be at the top of the class.
  • 9. Chapter 9 - (page 281) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Your experience with prejudice Yes I have many times as a child. I was discriminated against due to the fact that I was black I can remember as far back as elementary school this kid named vlad would mock me and call me an odd name from his language I never understood it and me and him were enemy’s from day one of third grade I wish I could have a sit down with him and resolve our issues. The only way I could see something come positive out of this is trying to talk the problem out as adults or simply walk away and avoid the other individual the best way you can for example ignoring them or if it gets to that point get the police involved because safety is key.
  • 10. Chapter 10 - (page 312) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Addiction What is Addiction? Addiction means a person has no control over whether he or she uses a drug or drinks. Someone who's addicted to cocaine has grown so used to the drug that he or she has to have it. Addiction can be physical, psychological, or both. Personally and I thank god I have never gone through addiction well maybe not a drug or drinking but regular stuff like candy to be serious a way to handle addiction there are many you can do the following… -Tell your friends about your decision to stop using drugs. Your true friends will respect your decision. This might mean that you need to find a new group of friends who will be 100% supportive. Unless everyone decides to kick their drug habit at once, you probably won't be able to hang out with the friends you did drugs with. -Ask your friends or family to be available when you need them. You might need to call someone in the middle of the night just to talk. If you're going through a tough time, don't try to handle things on your own — accept the help your family and friends offer.
  • 11. Chapter 11 - (page 342) Emotional Intelligence Journal – You and credit Well as of now I don’t pay bills it came with my credit card college account which saves me from credit bills for about four years so I am good on that but if I had to I would pay them on time it is our responsibility as adults to do our job and pay on time so we can have what we paid for and live well. As for saving money I could suggest the following -Set savings goals. For short-term goals, this is easy. If you want to buy a video game, find out how much it costs; if you want to buy a house, determine how much of a down payment you’ll need. For long-term goals, such as retirement, you’ll need to do a lot more planning (figuring out how much money you’ll need to live comfortably for 20 or 30 years after you stop working), and you’ll also need to figure out how investments will help you achieve your goals. And figure out how much you’ll have to save per week, per month, or per paycheck to attain each of your savings goals.
  • 12. Chapter 12 - (page 369) Emotional Intelligence Journal – Revisit your personal mission I think three career priorities I matched up with were Intellectual which is solving complex questions requiring thought, applying concepts, and knowledge to problems. Variety which is being engaged in many different activities or problems. Creative this is initiating new idea or product. And to be honest they have not changed at all. But in the end I am confident for where I am going in the future and I can’t wait for what lies ahead for me. But another priority I could possibly incorporate is security which means knowing the job will last. And I will have that job for a very long time.
