3. Today’s Lesson Today’s lesson requires you all to use following TRICS You will also need to use your prior learning – check your exercise books for notes and look at the lesson slides from our previous lessons on my blogspot site.
4. Assignment Brief – Scenario This is the scenario you have to imagine you are in for all your Tasks for this unit. You are a well trained media researcher working for a major media research company and you are seeking promotion to Senior Researcher. In order to gain the promotion you have been asked to carry out a number of tasks; a presentation with a partner, a detailed analysis of the construction of a media product and finally a mini research task.
5. Assignment Brief – Task 1 Your Assessment Objective for this unit is to: Know how a media industry identifies audiences for its products. These are the instructions from the Assignment Brief for Task 1 In order to gain your promotion to Senior Researcher you have been asked to team up and produce a presentation. You and your partner must produce a presentation explaining how media industries identify their audiences. You must include information about audience classification and research methods, you must explain the pro’s and con’s of these methods and finally you must find a case study from a particular media industry and explain how they classify their audience and how they carry out research in order to identify audiences for their products.
6. Task 1 – Grading Criteria In order to achieve a PASS grade in this task you must ensure that you: Outline ways in which a media industry identifies audiences for its product. Task 1 – Presentation Rules Your presentation must be at least 10 minutes in length but no longer than 20 minutes Both partners must contribute equally – you must both prepare for it and take part in the presentation itself as you will be graded separately for this task You can use any format to present your information for the presentation but you CANNOT simply read from slides or handouts in your presentation – be creative!!

You should use at least two examples here to help illustrate your explanation. Here are some tips: Think about money and advertising revenue – why is it important for media industries to know who their products are aimed at and suitable for? Think about censorship issues – why might it be vital that certain industries classify their products for particular audiences.

You must pick one of the following television shows and create an audience profile for that show. Here are some tips: If you have said the age group for your chosen show is 25-40 then you need to explain why and try to use an example to help illustrate your explanation Try finding comparisons with other similar shows as examples
