1.To strengthen the capability of member
schools in providing excellent religious
education and catechesis through
formation programs and faculty
development
2. To promote co-responsibility and
sharing of “best practices” through
networking
3. To provide assistance to dioceses that
may need help in establishing new
catechetical centers
4. To implement self-assessment and
certification among member schools as a
process towards, and commitment to,
continuing improvement in quality religious
education
5.To assist member-institutions in seeking
endowments and grants that will ensure continuity of
programs and projects
6.To engage in advocacy in issues involving
government and ecclesiastical policies which impact
on religious education
Responding to the emerging challenges in the
catechetical apostolate in the Philippines, and in
order to set standards for the catechetical
centers/institutes in the country, the Association
of Catechetical Centers and Colleges with Religious
Education (ACCCRE) established a certification
process for catechetical centers and institutes
based on the guidelines of the General Directory
for Catechesis which lists the three dimensions of
formation as knowing, being and doing/savoir-
faire (know-how).
The requirements for
certification focus on content of
the curriculum, spirituality and
competence of the formators and
student catechists, the
pedagogical formation, practicum
and communication formation.

Where possible, catechists should be trained in
their own special centers of schools. Church
documents from Ad Gentes to Redemptoris
Missio stress the importance of making efforts
“to establish and support schools for catechists,
which are to be approved by the Episcopal
Conference and confer diplomas officially
recognized by them”.

C. METHODOLOGY/PROCESS
1. Formulation of Instrument

OVERVIEW FOR SELF-ASSESSMENT
KNOWING
A. FORMATORS
1.The educational qualifications and professional competence
of formators have to be adequate for teaching in the catechetical
center or institute. These include college or graduate degrees such
as masteral or doctoral degrees, outstanding achievement or years
of experience in Religious Education or Christian formation.
2.The formators are knowledgeable on the basic essentials of
faith in Sacred Scriptures, Creed, Christology, Holy Trinity, Church,
Sacraments, Morality and Liturgy.
3. The formators are well-informed with the official teachings and
documents of the Church such as Magisterium, Vatican II documents, papal
encyclicals and apostolic exhortations, PCP II, pastoral letters, catechetical books
and directories (CCC, GCD, CFC, NCDP).
4.The formators are knowledgeable of the nature, methods and goals of
the catechesis.
5.The formators acquire certain background on basic Human Sciences
such as Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology
B. STUDENT CATECHISTS
The student catechists need to acquire the minimum learning competencies in
curriculum, catechetics and human sciences.
1. CURRICULUM (Six fundamental tasks of catechesis: GCD)
1.1 Program is faithful to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), the
Catechism for Filipino Catholics (CFC) and the New National Catechetical
Directory for the Philippines (NCDP)
1.2 Program provides formation in all aspects – human, spiritual, doctrinal,
apostolic and professional (John Paul II), Address to the Plenary Assembly of
the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, April 1992
a. Promotes knowledge of the faith by offering courses on:
i. Creed
ii. Jesus Christ
iii. God as Trinity
iv. Church
v. Bible
b. Liturgical Education and Formation
•Program provides firm grounding on the life of worship of the faith
community
•Designated place of worship such as a chapel or oratory with the
Blessed Sacrament, sacred images, prayer books and sacramental
•Draws upon the cycle of the church calendar by creating academic
and social events around feast days and other days of significance
in order to promote awareness of the time the Catholic faith keeps
•Offers courses on:
i. Liturgy
ii. Sacraments
iii. Popular Religiosity
c. Moral Formation
•Program develops among the catechists keen
awareness of their role as moral agents, paves the
way for the cultivation of virtues and a firm moral
stance on such issues as sexuality, culture of life,
stewardship especially on integrity of creation,
governance and peace.
•Program offers courses on:
i. Fundamental Moral Theology
ii. Commandments, Beatitudes, Virtues and Grace
iii. Catholic Social Teachings
iv. Bioethics
d. Teaching to Pray
•An essential objective of the program is the development
of a vibrant prayer life achieved through participation in
spiritual retreats and recollections, praying of the divine
office, daily meditation/spiritual reading, praying the
rosary
•An essential component of the formation program is
spiritual direction
•Program offers courses on:
i. Retreat and recollection facilitation
ii. Preparation for reception of First Communion and
Confirmation
e. Formation for Community Life
•Program promotes compassion for the poor and the
marginalized in the society
•Program provides opportunities for service learning
•Program develops respect for other faiths and
commitment to dialogue
•An essential component of the program is a well
organized community immersion and outreach program
•Program offers courses on:
• Basic Ecclesial Community and the Church of the Poor
• Ecumenism and inter-faith dialogue
• Community organizing and development
f. Missionary Initiation and Animation
•Program provides a clear trajectory towards
a career in catechism within the context of
the diocese or the formal school system
•Program provides the catechists with
guidance and opportunities to seriously
consider the possibility of serving the
church as priests, sisters, brothers or youth

To implement self-assessment and certification among member schools as a process towards, and commitment to, continuing improvement in quality religious education 5.To assist member-institutions in seeking endowments and grants that will ensure continuity of programs and projects 6.To engage in advocacy in issues involving government and ecclesiastical policies which impact on religious education

Responding to the emerging challenges in the catechetical apostolate in the Philippines, and in order to set standards for the catechetical centers/institutes in the country, the Association of Catechetical Centers and Colleges with Religious Education (ACCCRE) established a certification process for catechetical centers and institutes based on the guidelines of the General Directory for Catechesis which lists the three dimensions of formation as knowing, being and doing/savoir- faire (know-how).
  • 10. The requirements for certification focus on content of the curriculum, spirituality and competence of the formators and student catechists, the pedagogical formation, practicum and communication formation.
  • 11. Guide for Catechists, 30 Where possible, catechists should be trained in their own special centers of schools. Church documents from Ad Gentes to Redemptoris Missio stress the importance of making efforts “to establish and support schools for catechists, which are to be approved by the Episcopal Conference and confer diplomas officially recognized by them”.

  • 18. OVERVIEW FOR SELF-ASSESSMENT KNOWING A. FORMATORS 1.The educational qualifications and professional competence of formators have to be adequate for teaching in the catechetical center or institute. These include college or graduate degrees such as masteral or doctoral degrees, outstanding achievement or years of experience in Religious Education or Christian formation. 2.The formators are knowledgeable on the basic essentials of faith in Sacred Scriptures, Creed, Christology, Holy Trinity, Church, Sacraments, Morality and Liturgy.

The formators are well-informed with the official teachings and documents of the Church such as Magisterium, Vatican II documents, papal encyclicals and apostolic exhortations, PCP II, pastoral letters, catechetical books and directories (CCC, GCD, CFC, NCDP). 4.The formators are knowledgeable of the nature, methods and goals of the catechesis. 5.The formators acquire certain background on basic Human Sciences such as Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology B. STUDENT CATECHISTS The student catechists need to acquire the minimum learning competencies in curriculum, catechetics and human sciences. 1. CURRICULUM (Six fundamental tasks of catechesis: GCD)
