- University-level acronyms from the top, down. GREPIT is a student organization within the EPIT department of the College of Education at the University of Georgia.
- EPIT was recently re-organized into three main programs. EPSY, or Educational Psychology includes three specializations (Applied Cognition & Development; Research, Evaluation, Measurement, & Statistics; and Gifted & Creative Education). SPY is School Psychology. LDT is Learning, Design & Technology and includes LDT (PhD, Masters - research), Instructional Design & Development (M.Ed. or Ed.S.), and School Library Media (M.Ed. or Ed.S.).

- GREPIT’s purpose is tofoster contacts and communication between students and faculty and encourage active participation in projects relating to the various fields represented in the department. The 2010-2011 Executive council consists of Tonia Dousay (LDT), Amanda Bramlett (EPSY), and Devin Waldrop (SPY).
- GREPIT maintains the Graduate Student Commons, located in Aderhold 619. The access code is 241. This room includes 2 PCs and 1 Mac that are all new computers. There are also 2 printers in the room (1 color, 1 BW). Printing is free, but you must bring your own paper on which to print.Additionally, GREPIT hosts professional development seminars and social events throughout the year. Announcements for these events may be found on the GREPIT website or through the GREPIT-L listserv, to which everyone should be subscribed.If you are traveling to a conference and will be presenting (poster or session), consider submitting a request to GREPIT for travel expenses.Students presenting posters at conferences may print their poster for free through the Graduate School. You must provide your own paper and GREPIT is happy to provide two sheets of pre-cut poster paper to students who request it.
- You can get involved in GREPIT by serving on a committee, serving as your program representative, and/or attending seminars and social events. Visit the URL to complete the 2010 survey and let GREPIT know what types of events you’d like to see hosted and/or how you’d like to serve the organization.
- If you haven’t already, make sure you’ve made contact with your advisor. This is essential to getting registered for classes. Also make sure that you’ve submitted your heath center forms. If you’re required or need to sign up for student health insurance, visit http://www.hr.uga.edu/benefits/stuins/stuins.html to enroll or submit your waiver. If you haven’t already, visit https://myid.uga.edu/ to sign up for your MyID. You will need this to access all online resources on campus, including registration. Once you’re enrolled, you can visit the UGACard Office in Tate to obtain your student ID. If you need a parking permit, visit http://www.parking.uga.edu/ to register. If you have a motorcycle or scooter, you’ll need to visit the parking office (inside the Joe Frank Harris Commons) to purchase your permit in person. Last, but not least, get registered for fall classes once your advisor has cleared you.
- Be sure to visit the UGA main website from time to time. If there are any major events that affect classes, they will be posted here. Additionally, you can use the directory located at the bottom of the page to locate contact information for students, faculty, and staff.
- The Graduate School oversees all graduate education at the University of Georgia. You will occasionally receive email announcements from them, but you can also follow them on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/ugagradstudies) and like them on Facebook (UGA Grad Studies) to stay up to date on campus events, deadlines, and other news. Any forms you will need are also available on their website.
- The College of Education website helps keep you up to date with news about the college and includes links to other useful websites, including the COEWeb Portal, where you submit end of course evaluation forms.
- MyUGA provides single-sign on access to many online UGA resources, including email, OASIS, eLC, elementK texts, Student Accounts, meal plans, etc. They also provide links to many other resources you may need from time to time.
- UGAMail is your official means of communication through the University of Georgia. Messages sent by University officials, including faculty and staff, are considered delivered to and received by you if sent to your UGA email address. When you need to contact a UGA faculty or staff member, you MUST use your UGA mail to ensure delivery. UGA filters are very strict and may filter out non-UGA email. If you prefer using another mail system, it is recommended that you forward all incoming mail to this external address to ensure timely delivery and receipt. To do this, log into your account >> select Options >> Shortcuts to other things you can do > Forward your mail using Inbox rules >> New >> Create a new rule for arriving messages… >> * When the messages arrive, and: > [Apply to all messages] >> Do the following > Redirect the message to… >> Message recipients: > [enter your email address] >> OK >> Save. You may also configure your other email account to send UGA Mail. Mail is sent through the pod51004.outlook.com server. Instructions to set this up vary by client and/or system.
- You will use OASISto register for classes, vote in student government elections, accept financial aid offers, and view grades. You can also use OASIS (through registration) to find out required textbooks. Visit http://www.reg.uga.edu/otutorial.nsf if you need a tutorial on how to use OASIS for any of these tasks.
- Many professors and instructors use eLC to supplement their face to face courses. Even if you’re not enrolled in a blended or online course, be sure to check eLC for these resources. It’s a good idea to set-up the eLC to forward Commons mail to your UGAMail. To do this, log in to eLC >> go to My Settings >> select the My Tool Options tab >> scroll down to Mail and select the check box for Mail Forwarding >> scroll down and click Save.
- Getting around town without a car is as easy is swiping your UGACard on The Bus. Buses generally run every hour. Visit http://www.athenstransit.com to download a system map and check the route schedules.
- Campus Buses generally run every 13-15 minutes. Visit http://www.transit.uga.edu to download a system map or check most bus stops.
- Bulldog Bucks are a great way to pay for snacks, meals, and services on campus. They are also accepted off campus. Visit http://bulldogbucks.uga.edu/ for information about how to add funds to your card or what businesses accept Bulldog Bucks.
- Campus Dining maintains dining halls and snack shops on campus. Bone Appetit is located in Aderhold on the 1st floor (from the main entrance, turn left and then your first left). They stock salads, sandwiches, chicken strips, soda, juice, water, coffee, chips, cookies, soups, bagels, cereal and more. The Red Clay Café is located down the hill in the Joe Frank Harris Commons. Small booths specialize in salads, sandwiches, and more. All locations accept cash, credit, and Bulldog Bucks.
- Graduate school can seem overwhelming with all of the time commitments, but make time to stay active. Physical activities have been clinically proven to help reduce stress, aid in sleeping, and contribute to overall well being. The Ramsey Center offers recreational sports for all types of fitness and fun. Visit http://www.recsports.uga.edu/ for more information.
- Nadine Cohen with the Curriculum Materials Library will present a brief overview of Library Services, including GALILEO and Ask a Librarian.
- Dr. Nancy Knapp will provide greetings on behalf of the Department Head, Dr. Robert Branch, as well as speak about the EPSY program. Dr. Mike Orey will speak about the LDT program, and Dr. Jonathan Campbell will speak about the SPY program.
- Be sure to join us for GREPIT’s first social event of the year! Summer’s end is just around the corner. So, let’s enjoy it while we can! Be sure to RSVP so that we can plan accordingly. The price for kayaking will be $20/person.
