Are we confident that our light is bright
Vol. 47 April 25, 2022 Number 17
TOP TEN SIGNS YOU'RE NOT
READING YOUR BIBLE
ENOUGH
10.) The preacher announces the sermon is from Genesis and you
check the table of contents.
9.) You think Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob may have had a few hit
songs during the â60s.
8.) You open to Psalms and a WWII savings bond falls out.
7.) When asked, you say that your favorite Old Testament
patriarch is Hercules.
6.) Your favorite Bible verse is, âCleanliness is next to godliness.â
5.) You become frustrated because Charlton Heston isnât listed in
either the concordance or the table of contents.
4.) Catching the kids reading the Song of Solomon, you demand:
âWho gave you this stuff?â
3.) You think the Minor Prophets worked in the quarries.
2.) You keep falling for it every time when the preacher tells you
to turn to First Hezekiah. And the number one sign you may
not be reading your Bible enough:
1.) The kids keep asking too many questions about your usual
bedtime story: âJonah the Shepherd Boy and His Ark of Many
Colors.â
âStudy to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to
be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truthâ â2 Timothy 2:15

2. --article continued from page 1--
The answer is in remembering that man was created
in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). Being made in
the image of God involves, among other things, the
ability to make choices, including the choice to be
happy. However, if we choose to search for
happiness in the things of this world true happiness
will never be achieved.
God, the Creator and Sustainer of life, gave
man everything needed to sustain life and godliness
(2 Peter1:3), including the offering of His only
begotten Son (John 3:16; John 14:6). Jesus said that
He came to offer the abundant life, now that is true
happiness. âThe thief cometh not, but for to steal,
and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they
might have life, and that they might have it more
abundantlyâ (John 10:10). Knowing that God has
offered so much for every man, why would one
have any trouble not having a healthy level of self-
esteem? Maybe too many fail to study Godâs Word
to see and understand what He has done for man.
Truly understanding these truths will help one to be
well on his way toward achieving happiness in this
life. To be continued...

EMYG News
âBy your words you shall be justified, and by your
words you shall be condemnedâ (Matt. 12:37). Have
you ever noticed the similarity between the words
âgospelâ and âgossipâ? There is a difference of just
three letters, but those three letters make all the dif-
ference. There are many passages in Godâs word that
point tothe powerof speaking,of language, and of words.
In fact, Godâs own Word is referred to as the Sword of
the Spirit. For such powerful organs, our tongues are
wielded very casually every day. It is easy to forget
how important the use of our language really is.
As Christians, we should consider the respon-
sibilities and privileges of speaking as we interact
with our friends, families, coworkers, fellow Chris-
tians, and potential brothers and sisters in Christ. We
are commanded to avoid gossip, slander, and loose
tongues. A few examples: Thou shall not go about as
a slanderer among your peopleâ (Lev. 19:16). âThe
wicked sit and speak against your brother; you
slander your own motherâs sonâ (Psa. 50:20).
âSo also the tongue is a small part of the body, and
yet it boasts of great things. Behold how great a forest
is set aflame by such a small fire! And the tongue is set
among our members as that which defiles the entire
body. And sets on fire the course of our life and is set
on fire by Hellâ (James 3:5-6). James goes on to tell
us that we are able to tame all kinds of wild animals,
but âno one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil
and full of deadly poison.â (James 3:8)
Indeed, gossip is linked with some of the worst
sins. Romans says men âdid not see fit to acknow-
ledgeGodanylonger,Godgavethemover to a depraved
mind, to do those things which are not proper, being
filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed,
evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they
are gossips.â (Rom. 1:29-30). Still this tool can be
considered a great gift of God and a most valuable
tool to be used in the cause of His kingdom.
We can use our words to uplift others when they
are down and need encouragement. We can
prayerfully and carefully discuss the sins in our
mutual lives, and we are commanded to tell others
about the Gospelâundoubtedly the most important
task for which our tongues exist! We read about the
beauty of the fruit of our lips in Proverbs: âThe
tongue of the wise use knowledge aright: but the
mouth of fools pours out foolishness.â (Prov. 15:2)
âThere is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips
of knowledge are a precious jewel.â (Prov. 20:15)
âThe lips of the wise disperse knowledge.â (Prov.
15:7) âA man hath joy by the answer of his mouth:
and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!â
(Prov. 15:7) Key to our lives as Christians is the
mandate given to us in First Peter: But sanctify
Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to
make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an
account for the hope that is in youâŠâ (I Peter 3:15)
Letâs not forget to study, pray, and practice the precious
and good use of our tongues to avoid gossip and keep our
minds on the gospel. Rememberââby our wordsâ we
will be either justified or condemned. Alex
