The Right Focus for Writing a Dissertation Proposal
1. Don’t Make It Hard On Yourself Get your head straight before you start to write your dissertation
2. Two Hats Doctoral Students Mix Up You want to do good things in your world – you want to build solutions – this = Your Program Hat You want to graduate, to finish your dissertation – this = Your Research Hat
3. The Way You Write Changes You say, “this study investigates” rather than the goal of this study is to…. You are cut and dried – you discuss the questions, the population and the context for data collection and analysis
4. Remember:It needs to be CLEAN Your writing is NOT about your topic. It IS about your proposed research. Every topic discussed must impact some aspect of your study. If needed for background keep it very short. Everything substantiates your research/NOT your ideas.
