Editing an Image on Photoshop
I searched for an image that I could use to practice editing on Photoshop. I found a
picture of a can of green paint with the lid beside it, a paintbrush in it, and a can opener In front
of it (Beres, 2011).Then I reviewed the tutorials on Lynda.com and YouTube. For this image I
used two tutorials on one image. The first alteration I made was following a YouTube tutorial on
inverting the color scheme. The largely green and white image turned an interesting purple and
black when the colors were inverted. The lid of the can looked odd after the color change, so I
followed directions from Lynda.com to crop it out. This left a hole in the image, so I used a
painting program to make a page of black. I used the page I made as a new layer and set it
behind the image with the hole. Finally, to make sure the image was clearly a can of paint, not
soup, I used text to label the image with the word paint.
For my second image, I chose a black and white image of the Sydney Opera House,
because my unit plan is on opera (Sydney, 2013). My first change was to write opera in my own
handwriting, in writing which was shaded from red to gold. The image had small white print in
the bottom right hand corner. I used a brush tool to cover the words. I chose the brush tool
because it looked like water, and blended in. Then I used an erase tool to put in some white and
grey clouds. The final, and my favorite addition was a small flick of birds I drew in with a pencil
writing tool.
