2. Joshua 1 1
Now after the death of Moses, the
servant of the Lord, it came to pass, that the Lord
spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister,
saying, 2
Moses My servant is dead; now therefore
arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people,
unto the land which I do give to them, even to the
children of Israel.

Moses isMoses is deaddead; now; now arisearise andand gogo..
They've had timetime to grieve -- 30 days.
Return to the livingliving.
3. There are two events before this that I want to teach.

Arrival at the borders of Canaan
The first time Israel arrived was into the
second yearsecond year after they left Egypt.
Moses sent twelve spiestwelve spies, one from each tribe, into
the Land to see what it was like.
They returned with
conflicting reports.
4. Numbers 13

All twelve spies
"It's a good land, flowing with
milk and honey."
"It's a land to be desired."
5. But ten of the spies brought
back an evil reportevil report:
"We can't take it."
"The cities are walled."
"The people are huge."

6. Numbers 14 (Caleb and Joshua) 8
If the Lord delight in us, then
HeHe will bring us into this land,
and givegive it us; a land which
floweth with milk and honey. 9
Only rebel not ye against the
Lord, neither fear ye the
people of the land; for they are
bread for us: their defense is
departed from them, and the
Lord is with us: fear them not.

7. The people believedbelieved the evil report of the
unbelieving spies and rebelledrebelled against Moses.

They would elect a captain and return to Egypt.
Choosing safety as slaves, rather than to
believe Godbelieve God for a life of freedom.
God said they would diedie in the wilderness, but He
would bringbring their children into the land,
After 40 yearsAfter 40 years of wandering in the wilderness.
The ten spies died right thendied right then of a plague.
8. The only two adults who would enter Canaan:
Joshua and Caleb.

For God hath notnot given us the spirit
of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound
mind.
9. The second event happened in the 4040thth
yearyear of
wandering in the wilderness. (Numbers 20)

Dried up!
10. God told Moses to take his rod in his hand, and
Speak to the rockSpeak to the rock.

Moses was angry with the
people and struck the rock.
It worked!
All is well!
11. Numbers 20:12
And the Lord spake unto Moses and
Aaron, Because ye believed Me not, to sanctify
Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore
ye shall not bringye shall not bring this congregation into the land
which I have given them.

Weren't immediately
evident
Neither Moses nor Aaron
would ever enter
The Promised Land.
12. Moses died at the age of 120 years.
He saw Canaan from afar, but never entered.

Moses is in HeavenHeaven today; he didn't lose
his relationshiprelationship with God.
He simply lost the blessingblessing of Canaan.
He never experienced the victoryvictory;

13. Joshua 1 1
Now after the death of Moses, the
servant of the Lord, it came to pass, that the Lord
spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister,
saying, 2
Moses My servant is dead; now therefore

Joshua had been the servantservant of Moses for 40 years.
Now, he will leadlead the nation.
14. Hebrews 10 35
Cast not away therefore your
confidence, which hath great recompence of
reward. 36
For ye have need of patience, that, afterafter
ye have done the Will of GodWill of God, ye might receive the
promise.

To trust God is to be contentcontent in waiting.
Faith is confidenceconfidence in God's Word and Will.
The faithful are joyfully willingjoyfully willing to do the
humblesthumblest of duty, as long as God Wills.
15. How do you see yourself?

" and we were in our own sightin our own sight as grasshoppers,
and so we were in their sightso we were in their sight."

16. Numbers 14 (Caleb and Joshua) 8
If the Lord delight in us, then
He will bring us into this land,
and give it us; a land which
floweth with milk and honey.

Let us be men and women of
Trusting God to bring us into
His Good Land with victory, joy,
peace, and contentment.
