1. Peter, along with James and John, saw Jesus , in His glorified body , talking with Moses and Elijah. January 27, 2010 Not a myth nor a fable; An eyewitness account.
2. 12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them , and be established in the present Truth. 13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance ; 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. 15 Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance .
3. 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the Power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His Majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father Honor and Glory, when there came such a Voice to Him from the excellent glory, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." 18 And this Voice, which came from Heaven, we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount . God is the Perfect Father ; we can follow His example with our children .
4. Mark 9 1 And HE said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the Kingdom of God come with power. 2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and HE was transfigured before them.
5. 3 And HIS raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. 4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses : and they were talking with Jesus . 5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 6 For he wist not what to say ; for they were sore afraid.
6. 7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a Voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is MY beloved Son: hear Him. 8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. Peter, James, and John saw Jesus as He is now as He sits on the Right Hand of God, And as He will be when He returns to receive us unto Himself, to be forever with Him.
7. Jesus was just having a conversation with Moses and Elijah. Peter, James, and John were bystanders in this situation, observing , but having no part. They were all scared out of their wits. Some people, when they get nervous or scared, start talking fast and saying nothing.
8. 7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a Voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is MY beloved Son: hear Him. [ Matt, Luke, Peter (well pleased)] It was time to hush talking and listen . Jesus had been telling His disciples of His coming suffering and death . It wasn't time for the Kingdom of God to enter its fullness. It wasn't time for Jesus' glorification .
9. It was a foretaste of things to come! It made Peter an eyewitness of the things he wrote about in this letter to the churches. It gave him added authority in his teaching. 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the Power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His Majesty.
10. Peter saw and heard, believed and taught. John 20 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. Ours is the greater blessing!
11. 19 We have also a more sure Word of Prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed , as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no Prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation . 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost . Peter gave an eyewitness account and that was good, But the Scriptures are even more sure .
12. The authority of Scripture Whatever the Scriptures say , we must receive as the absolute authority of God. It is God talking to us . Wherever the Scriptures are silent , we must also be silent , for we can speak with no authority.
