5. 12 AndSaul was afraid of David,
because the Lord was with him,
and was departed from Saul.
5
6. Acts 18:13 Therefore
Saul removed him from him, and
made him his captain over a thousand; and he went
out and came in before the people.
Saul demoted David -- no longer with Saul in
battle -- he was merely a captain over 1000.
Did this cause David to act out?
6
7. 14 And David behaved himself wisely in all his
ways;
and the Lord was with him.
David continued to behave as the man of God,
because he was God's man.
No matter what others may do, we must
be like David --
Walking with God, and living our lives
wisely, according to His Will.
7
8. 15 Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved
himself very wisely, he was afraid (even more afraid)
of him. 16 But all Israel and Judah loved David,
because he went out and came in before them.
David was the one leading his 1000 men to
victories in battle.
The armies and the people loved him.
8
9. 17 And Saul said to David, Behold my elder
daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only
be thou valiant for me, and fight the Lord's battles.
For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but
let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
Saul had promised to give his daughter to the man
who killed Goliath,
but he reneged on his promise.
David still doesn't have a wife.
9
10. Now Saul says that to marry his older daughter,
David will have to continue to fight the Philistines.
17bFor Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him,
but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
Saul had tried to kill David twice,
and failed both times.
Maybe he will be killed fighting
Saul's battles.
10
11. 18 And David said unto Saul, Who am I? and what
is my life, or my father's family in Israel, that I
should be son-in-law to the king?
David had the right to demand one of Saul's
daughters for his wife.
But David never demanded his rights.
We could all spend more time giving thanks for
our blessings, and less time demanding rights.
11
12. 19 But it came to pass at the time when Merab
Saul's daughter should have been given to David,
that she was given unto Adriel the Meholathite to
wife.
John 8 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the
lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer
from the beginning, and abode not in the Truth,
because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh
a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the
father of it.
12
13. 20 And Michal Saul's daughter loved David: and
they told Saul, and the thing pleased him. 21 And
Saul said, I will give him her, that she may be a
snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines
may be against him. Wherefore Saul said to David,
Thou shalt this day be my son-in-law in the one of
the twain.
At this time Michal loved David, but she was
her daddy's daughter.
That love would turn to hatred.
13
14. 22 And Saul commanded his servants, saying,
Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold,
the king hath delight in thee, and all his servants
love thee: now therefore be the king's son-in-law.
23 And Saul's servants spake those words in the ears
of David. And David said, Seemeth it to you a light
thing to be a king's son-in-law, seeing that I am a
poor man, and lightly esteemed?
David should be a rich man; that was Saul's
promise to the man who killed Goliath.
Another lie from the mouth of the king.
14
15. 24 And the servants of Saul told him, saying, On
this manner spake David. 25 And Saul said, Thus
shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any
dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines,
to be avenged of the king's enemies. But Saul
thought to make David fall by the hand of the
Philistines.
To collect 100 foreskins of the Philistines was
no small feat.
Saul was certain that David would
die in the attempt.
15
16. 26 And when his servants told David these words, it
pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law: and
the days were not expired.
Saul had placed a time limit on David to collect
the bridal price of 100 Philistine foreskins.
Before that time was up, David went out.
16
17. 27 Wherefore David arose and went, he and his
men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men;
and David brought their foreskins, and they gave
them in full tale to the king, that he might be the
king's son-in-law. And Saul gave him Michal his
daughter to wife.
David brought double the bridal price.
This time Saul kept his word.
17
18. 28 And Saul saw and knew that the Lord was with
David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him.
29 And Saul was yet the more afraid of David; and
Saul became David's enemy continually. 30 Then
the princes of the Philistines went forth: and it
came to pass, after they went forth, that David
behaved himself more wisely than all the servants
of Saul; so that his name was much set by.
18
19. We must see and understand how negative emotions,
such as envy, anger and fear, open the door for
demons to come into our minds and cause trouble.
We must renew our minds to think and feel as
God would be pleased.
19
20. Ephesians 4 31-32 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and
anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away
from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to
another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even
as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
Anything less is not worthy of a son or
daughter of the Most High God.
